I think you'll like ANT MAN & THE WASP when you get around to seeing it; I'd say it's my favorite Marvel movie of the year.

From what we see in the trailer, CAPTAIN MARVEL looks like it will be a solid movie but I'm not yet sure it will have a distinct impression of its own yet. Maybe the next trailer will offer a little more.

CGI de-aged Nick Fury barely looks any different than Sam Jackson does today. Clark Gregg as a young Phil Coulson looks convincingly different.

reported in November last year that Jude Law was cast to play Walter Lawson / Mar-Vell. Judging by these image scans from upcoming tie-in merchandise, it looks like the studio is trying not to be specific about Law's character. My guess is his identity as Mar-Vell will be revealed during the course of the movie. Based on the trailer, I think

Anyone else find it odd that we haven't seen any reviews yet? Just 3 days and a few odd hours away from the 'sneak preview' Thursday showings and so far... nothing. Seems like every other MCU film was shouting to the heavens about the wave of positive / 5 STAR reviews. CM has all the earmarkings of another big ballyhoo entry, thanks to it being Marvel's first film with a female hero in the lead. After their roaring for Black Panther (see what I did there?) with its deep African / Black roots and connections, that they'd be doing the same for this film with its female-centric attitude and heroine.

This makes me wonder if this might indicate the first MCU entry that Disney doesn't have unshakable faith in, or that is - gasp! - "bad" and the powers that be don't want negative word of mouth spreading ahead of time? Hmmm... :-/

^ Disney & Marvel are following a similar pattern for Captain Marvel as they did for Avengers: Infinity War last year. Infinity War had its world premiere in Hollywood on Monday, April 23, with the review embargo lifting the next day and the movie opening to the public that Thursday evening, April 26. While Captain Marvel had its world premiere in London this past Wednesday, the Hollywood premiere is happening tonight and the review embargo is lifting tomorrow ahead of the first public showings this Thursday evening. My guess is, like Infinity War, Marvel & Disney are playing their cards close to the vest with Captain Marvel to keep a lid on game-changing spoilers as much as possible.

I don't really care about spoilers too much, but the divisiveness this movie is causing is reaching almost TLJ level proportions, and it's only the first day. I'm trying REALLY HARD, not to be swayed one way or the other, because (unlike other such statements), there really are *good people on both sides*, there are also a lot of real jerks. I just want to take my family to a fun action superhero film, without color commentary from outraged hate filled nerds, or blind followers saying its the best thing ever, and to be honest, I don't even know when I'll be able to see it at this time.

One interesting observance however, for good or ill is this-- It's a regular habit for me to visit boxofficemojo on Friday mornings just to see how Thursday Night sales typically do for major tent pole films such as Captain Marvel. I cant recall in recent history, them not being posted. Interestingly however, there currently are only articles talking about how much $$$ the film is expected to make this weekend, the Thursday Night estimates are not posted...

It's pretty good. The movie's first and third acts are entertaining galactic Marvel stuff, but my personal favourite is the 90s buddy cop movie that they sneak into the middle of the movie. If you enjoyed Sam Jackson's 90s output, especially The Long Kiss Goodnight, you'll love that middle hour.

The movie has three things holding it back. First, there's way too much dumb sub-Whedon humour, but that's par for the course at this point. Some works, some doesn't. Second, the CG de-aging effects on Fury and Coleson are a mixed bag. It works fine in long or mid-shots, but closeups range from me forgetting that's not really 90s Sam Jackson all the way down to Justice League moustachegate levels of uncanny valley awfulness. Third, in the final act:



Overall, it's a 7/10 that could have been an 8/10 if they'd cranked up the threat in the final act.

Oh, and some people are going to hate how Fury loses his eye...
