I'm skipping this movie. TFA was trash and this film doesn't look any better.

Glad that Luke is done with all the Jedi BS.

I think that this'll probably be the best movie of this trilogy by virtue of the director.

^ Agreed....I mean I don't mind watching them, but I think a close friend summed it up best..."Yup looks like Star Wars".. I mean what more can you really say? --Sure online entertainment news is going to go crazy dissecting this 120 seconds of footage and overanalyzing, which is not what I'm about. It showed a few cool shots, but as for story, I know nothing at this point and that's fine.

well maybe not *nothing*...but this may actually be a first for Star wars...every film is separated by a passage of time

I think it's hard to get excited as I was for Force Awakens. I enjoyed TFA so I anticipate this will be of similar quality. There was far more riding on TFA so I'm okay with just being "Alright, let's do this."
Honestly the Rebels Season 4 trailer had me more hyped than this.

I also think the end of the Jedi makes sense. All the EU stuff Disney has put out seems to be hinting at the Force being more complex than light and dark (Hell, most everything in SW hints at that when you scrutinize anything they say about the Force). I suspect that bringing balance to the force is less about killing evil-folk and more about finding a way to manage both the light and dark aspects.

As I kid watching RotJ I thought that in the end Luke rejected both the way of the light and the dark by following his gut. He had the Emperor, Vadar, Obi Wan and Yoda all telling him what to do and he ended up ignoring all of it.

If the force can't be self taught then you've created a paradox where force users have to exist before anyone learns how to use the force in order to teach the first force users how to use it.

Maybe it's more to do with how the Jedi and Sith are trained. There's such a rigid hierarchy and set of trials involved.
The force, however, can be used by all sorts of people. It's there, though it obviously helps to be Force sensitive. Maybe Luke has discovered that the constant tugging of LIght and Dark is more detrimental than we realize.

The Jedi were never honestly that concerned with "balance". Anakin's role in the prophecy seemed like a bit of trivia that wasn't super forefront at all given the War. Generally it felt as though the Jedi were about maintaining peace and finding balance within themselves. I suspect there's plenty of the force that nobody understands.

Have you watched R1 more than once? I had the same complaint about poor characters the first time through, but I've seen it three more times and the characters have gotten better each time (specifically, the monks Chirrut and Baze have become real favorites - I'd be totally down for a spinoff featuring them as the leads). In fact, my overall feeling has shifted from "it was a decent movie with some really nice universe building and a sweet third act" to "I really love this movie and it might push ROTJ to my fifth spot in my Star Wars movie rankings".

Now bring on The Last Jedi! I can't wait to find out what happens to Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo!

i am still hoping for Kylo to fall into a Giant Chasm like his dad did.

I really, really want to see Kylo turn from Snoke but not back towards Luke and the light side and become a somewhat more neutral (though erring a bit more towards villainy) character.

I'm probably in the minority of really disliking the Force Awakens. I also wasn't too crazy about Rogue One, but I did think it was better than the garbage that was Force Awakens. I have no interest in any of the new characters in Force Awakens, especially Rey as the hero and Kylo Ren as the villain. Both were extremely dull and weak, and I while am not too crazy about bringing them back again for Last Jedi, I do hope the new director fleshes them out and makes them a lot more interesting. The trailer however did not get me excited. I am glad to see Luke Skywalker finally make his appearance, so hopefully at least he will make the movie more interesting. Unfortunately, I felt that Han and Lea were so wasted in Force Awakens. If they kill off Luke in Last Jedi, I hope his death won't be as empty and obvious as Han's death, which I saw coming a mile away.

Disney has done an excellent job with Marvel, but I am very disappointed with how they're handling the Star Wars universe. They should get someone like Keven Fiege to oversea the universe because whoever they have now seems like they're just trying to milk it as much as possible rather than create good movies with exciting stories and characters you love.

^It's fun when watching the credits of Gremlins or E.T. or the Indiana Jones movies to always see Kannedy's name pop up. She's been their practically from the beginning.
