You want to attract new fans, obviously... but if you more or less give 'The Finger' to the hardcore fanbase, then it's safe bet that there will be an ugly backlash on the web and through general word of mouth, such as those we're seeing here and elsewhere on other message boards from those who are long-time fans of either the U.S. versions of these shows, or their original Super Sentai counterparts. As such, the story / acting / everything else of this new film will have to be beyond phenomenal in order to the overcome major disappointment of what is essentially the main draw of this show/genre: spandex heroes & big combining robots battling outrageous monsters.
If LG & their production team continue to alienate the franchise's core audience with these marbled/bublegum-looking "organic armor" suits and Zords & a MegaZord that have been so over-designed, that they're basically NOTHING like what attracted people to them in the first place then I predict a modest-to-mildly strong opening weekend, followed by a sharp nosedive into oblivion once word of mouth gets out. I'd really rather not, 'cause I love these fun old shows. But, honestly, this junk does NOTHING to draw me back, especially having to pay to see it now when my first exposure was for free on TV. Sad.
