I thought the movie was okay; I'd give it a 60 or 65. More tolerable than your average MMPR episode, with some good character moments and a worthwhile last act, but it could've been funnier and more action-packed throughout. It holds out on some of the most obvious fan service -- the theme song, Putties vs. Rangers, etc. -- until the final act, with mixed results. And until then, most of the efforts at comedy and action fell flat for me. It's kind of dull to look at, too, with lots of grey in the palette -- a far cry from the bright colours I associate with the franchise. Most of the movie takes place underground or indoors, rather than in broad daylight, so I was thankful for brighter colours by the time Goldar fought the Rangers. Also, I liked Elizabeth Banks, but I felt she came closer to playing Zyuranger's Bandora than to MMPR's Rita. Bandora was a little more intimidating and less shrieky, which is how this movie's Rita is written and portrayed. Not bad, just not what I'd expected.

The movie wasn't everything I'd hoped it would be, but it seems the more into Power Rangers you are, the more you'll like it. My interest in the franchise is casual at best, though I'd like to see a movie sequel featuring the Dragonzord.

Ok, if you want to associate MMPR (1993) with "Super Sentai" which started in 1974, that's fine. Bu then let's associate Voltron (1984) with the first "Super Robot" Anime', which started in 1972.

The fact is that both of these franchises or styles of TV programs really would not have existed if not For the Original Gojira in 1954, pretty much everything sci-fi related in Japan is owed to it. Also for the record, as a hardcore Voltron fan, I would never want to see a live action movie because everyone would (wrongfully so) accuse it of being a MMPR "rip-off". I do see DreamWorks does have a movie planned out in long range, but I really hope its an animated film based on the current Legendary Defender series, a theatrical animated film serving as the series finale would be pretty awesome IMHO.

Good word of mouth convinced me to see this. Wish I hadn't. 2/5...and that's probably generous. I look forward to twenty minutes from now when this forgettable mess has left my brain.

This movie was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. It's definitely far from perfect, but I was surprised by how much I liked the characters. I actually thought the way they bonded over the course of the film was touching, even if they laid it on a little thick here and there. Rita's pretty awful, but I don't know how you can do Rita in a modern movie without making her horribly cheesy.

I just picked up the blu-ray, and enjoyed this movie even more the second time. Also, I don't normally bother with behind the scenes documentaries anymore, but I'm glad I watched the ones on this. Those CG suits that people were complaining about? Yeah, turns out those were practical most of the time, built by Weta Workshop. The glowing starfield core in the chests and the veins of light were added in post-production, but it looks like almost everything besides the morphing sequence and the more extreme stunts were practical suits. They were just really, really glossy!

I just saw this movie. I like this movie, but it doesn't feel like power Rangers until the last half hour. Of all the Sentai teams that Liongate could use, why did they use a team that already have an American counterpart? They should have use a team that doesn't have an American version.

What a disappointment. Power Rangers was one of my favourite movies this year, and I was really looking forward to the sequels. I guess there's just no business argument to counter that weak box office return though.

Couldn't they be using this as an opportunity to pivot on the franchise and address some of the criticism - for instance a more colorful logo to indicate the more colorful film like many expected from the first?

On a side note the other films I've seen carrying the Saban films banner look like huge bombs (Gun Shy, Killing Gunther)

Interestingly both Target and Toys-R-Us included movie PR and PR:Ninja Steel toys highlighted in their Christmas catalog this year, so they seem to be intending on continuing to market the toys through the holiday season.

I liked the fight/action at the very end of the movie.

A lot of the lead up was sort of cringey at times though. Trying a bit too hard at other times.
