I've heard the opposite really. Although the idea of Bay directing has come up, most PR fan forums seem to revile the idea. I have however heard a vocal group of the fandom wanting Matt Austin to direct it-- Short film director who played a main character on Power Rangers S.P.D.

As if him being involved would make the picture much different. Star Trek 3 was always going to be on Orci's shoulders regardless of his involvement with this movie, I don't think the final product will be much different with or without him. As far as screenwriting goes it was always Miller's and Stentz's movie, not Orci's.

I'd like to see the video mentioned in the article. Just going off from the description, it's fine for JDF to address it the way he does. The short was fun, nothing to take seriously. I know what it's on about. But when you see thousands of people saying, "I want this to be the next movie," or, "This is what Power Rangers should be," it's only fair to contradict them. Whether or not he knows what Kahn was aiming for is dubious. The article doesn't quite tell us either way.

Also I want Joseph Kahn to direct a Guyver reboot. Just throwing that out there.
