I actually thought the teaser trailer was really good. While I've always wanted this movie to have a similar tone to the TV series, I figured they'd go a bit more serious with this to target the teen demographic as well as moviegoers who aren't that into Power Rangers but want something more in line with the current crop of superhero movies. And honestly, they could have gone way darker than this. From what little we see, it seems like an acceptable amount to me.
And I'm glad this trailer focused on the characters a bit more because as much as I want to see a bunch of action with the suits and the Zords and whatnot, the characters make or break a movie or show. And since I'm already not really digging the suits or the mechs, the characters and action are my last hope. They feel grounded and fairly realistic, which I appreciate. But you can still feel the essence of the original MMPR characters within them, which is important. And ever since the cast started doing panels and interviews, I've really been rooting for them so I'm glad to see their characters having promise.
Also, since it is a teaser trailer, I'm glad we only saw like half a second of the suit during the morphing sequence. It makes everyone want to see more from this movie and excited for the actual trailer. Again, a well done trailer for a movie I was really nervous about as a fan of the franchise.
