I've now seen this movie three times, and it's interesting that my experience has been different each time. The first time I loved the first half, but felt let down by the recycled third act. The second time I knew what to expect, and thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. And the third time, having now listened to the soundtrack a dozen times, I was surprised that I ever felt the music wasn't playing its usual prominent role. Now that I recognise the new themes, I hear them throughout. I guess I was overwhelmed by the visuals the first time, but also some of the new themes are quite complex. Rey's theme has a lot of embellishments that can mask the core melody, and the resistance theme has a strange progression that took several listens to grow on me.

If you're interested in the bottomless depths of John Williams's music, I highly recommend the Star Wars Oxygen podcasts from Rebel Force Radio. They reveal layers of complexity and interrelation that I never consciously identified in the Star Wars scores, despite having heard most of them hundreds of times.

So... a few days ago Most websites were reporting a DVD/BRD release date of April 5th, now it seems anything official about that has been erased from the web. Sure the articles are still there, but all websites I have been to that have media to pre-order do not have a release date?

I was thinking they might do "May the 4th", but that is a Wednesday, but then again, its Disney, they can pretty much do whatever they want. -Additionally, this would allow the film to possibly flounder in discount theaters for a while to gain additional overall gross sales. --I know in the past, some films (including Star Wars), would try for one big push at the end "See it again before its gone from the big screen" campaign, but the last time I recall this was I think in 2002 with the First Spider-Man film. Not sure if it would be as effective now.

I won't go into a lengthy review, but here are my thoughts of this movie. In a nutshell, it was disappointing. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I actually enjoyed Revenge of the Sith better than this. At least with Sith, I enjoyed the light saber battles, and laughed at the corny Anakin dialog. With Awakens, I was just just scratching my head trying to figure out why someone who had no knowledge or training of the force can defeat a Sith-like villain so easily. They could've just did the same as they did with Luke, make her all powerful by the third movie. Would've been more believable and nice following the character as she grew up as Luke did. It also would've been better, at least for me, if Fin was the main character. Following a character who use to be a villainous storm trooper into a Jedi Knight would've really fleshed out the character and made me actually care for him. But I cared nothing for any of the characters, not even Han Solo. I saw his death coming as soon as he faced his son. It was just so obvious that he was going to kill him. And finally Kylo Ren and Snoke. Well, Kylo Ren was just a little annoying brat who threw temper tantrum whenever he didn't get what he wanted, and actually Snoke reminded me of Gollum LOL! And for me the biggest disappointment was not seeing Luke until the very end. The whole movie was supposed to be "the Search for Luke", and when we actually get to see him finally it was barely a few seconds. And he didn't even have any lines! At the very least he could've said something like, "I knew you would find me..." when Rey handed him the lightsabor. This guy is supposed to be a Jedi master, and he didn't sense this person coming who is supposed to be so strong with the force?

I really hope I like the next one better. This one just seemed really rushed, they didn't take the time to flesh out any of the characters to make them more human and likable. This is just how I felt. I'm glad most people enjoyed it and it's making so much money. But for me, it just wasn't much of an improvement over the awful prequels.

Well, I would say that some of your complaints address your other complaints. Clearly, Kylo Ren is no Vader. He can use the Force, yeah, but he's not fully capable and in control of all his abilities. He doesn't just throw Fin, a "mere" storm trooper to the side like nothing (as Vader would have) so him struggling with Rey AND losing to her, all while she's in an extremely emotionally heightened place, and he's been injured by both a blaster bolt from Chewbacca and his fight with Finn makes complete sense.

As for Rey, they did move her along a tad fast, but I'd argue only just a tad. Stuff like Leia hugging Rey and ignoring Chewbacca after Han's death is what I'm talking about here though; overemphasizing her role as opposed to just letting her grow into it. Her Force and piloting abilities all felt about right to me.

Also wasn't a fan of Snoke.

As for Luke, the whole movie IS about the search for Luke, so it wouldn't make sense to have him in the movie very much. If you ask me, it was actually kinda perfect. Instead of over relying on the existing cast, the new people got to take center stage much more. Furthermore, I think any line of dialogue spoken by Luke at that moment would have spoiled the scene. There's nothing to indicate he didn't know she was coming, in fact, given his odd position, it seems like he knew someone was coming and put himself at the spot he's at purposefully. Who knows for sure? That's what the sequel is for. Perhaps a BIT too much sequel baiting, but it is a mostly functional unto itself story that dangles enough to leave excitement and intrigue for the future.

Well although it has surpassed Titanic's original World Wide Release, it probably wont surpass its overall total because of the 15th anniversary 3D re-release in 2012 that tacked on an extra 200M or so. Still another 146M to reach that goal. Unless of course, they do that "last chance" promotion bit. We still don't have an official Home media release date do we?

I wouldn't be surprised if they've pushed back the supposed April release date in order to continue milking the box office.

I'll probably revisit Force Awakens before Rogue One. I liked it a lot in theatres but I haven't gotten around to the Blu-ray.
