Huh. Well, I guess that bodes pretty well for The Last Jedi... it’s not even out yet and they’re so happy with it they announce this.

I’ve been pretty darn happy with the two films they’ve made since Disney bought Lucasfilm, so hopefully that trend continues. I’m excited about the idea of all new characters and new locations. That’s something I’ve felt was lacking for a long time. The Skywalkers are cool, but it’s an entire flipping galaxy. Surely there’s other interesting goings on. And there must be other planets that aren’t Tatooine. Right?

Disney is putting as little effort into marketing Solo as possible.

Not that it matters. The people who care about this kind of thing (like me) are ultimately in the minority, and general popcorn munchers will just erupt with joy when the trailer drops, and the movie will be a hit. Because Star Wars. Forever. Star Wars. Always. Star Wars.

To be blunt (and I usual never am), I didn't like it.

I don't know. Perhaps it is me, still in that mentality that this was an unnecessary movie. I could understand something like "Rogue One", but I already saw a young Han Solo back in 1977. His character was already intriguing enough without background fillers.

The only interesting thing to me is seeing Donald Glover as Lando.

Oh, and Woody Harrelson. He's good in everything.

It's as if they are thinking they can do as little marketing as possible to maximize profits. It will probably work since most....all fans know it's coming, casual fans probably know it's coming, non fans probably know who "Solo" is and still probably won't come.

Realistically, they have this thing down to a point where if it makes as much as Rogue One at the BO, it's thin marketing budget will increase profits.

Our connected society has made franchises like this transparent. The only movies that really need a push anymore are non-sequels or universes. The production companies have quantified cost and profit based on worse case scenarios with their target audiences and make their projections based on that. Then find out where they can cut cost to increase profit.

Solo will not be the last big film to get a smaller push.

^ This its certainly the most promising look yet. Makes it look like a fun space western.

I know people have complained that new Han just doesn't seem as cool as Harrison Ford... but should he be? I mean, this is like ten years before New Hope, right? He isn't the hardened, cynical guy yet; he should be a bit green and getting his bearings around more accomplished crooks.

I'll see the film. As divise as TLJ was (and yeah I had some issues with it). I' consider myself pretty balanced (no pun intended) when it comes to this series. The EU always comes to my mind first, and I have to go through a translation process in my mind, taking what Disney has done and filter it through from *what should have been* to *what is*.....There was a really cool novel simply titled Millennium Falcon, that basically went through the ships entire history of owners (of which there were several before Lando). The ship should not look as pretty as it does in the film, in my mind, it was always well used, even by the time Han & Chewie got it...but whatever...im interested to see what the onscreen spectacle has to offer

Liked the trailer...

Loved the music, especially the guitar riff portion, very non-scifi/Star Wars....

Chewie serving up an ass whooping...FINALLY!

It does seem like the focal point of selling this movie has been Donald Glover as Lando instead of Han or Chewie or the love interest!

I've been saying they should have done a Lando movie instead, and also that a Lando movie should be the follow-up to this movie if they make a follow-up, but now it's gotten just about to the point where I'm believing myself and wondering if this isn't already in the works!

I've always found the MCU to be personally underwhelming overall.

Flipside, I've always understood the continued love with it...for the most part (it's a bit of a digression, but essentially it's somewhat surprising that something so...involved with SO many entries remains popular and people haven't just given up on trying to keep track of it all).


Star Wars, I once upon a time would have held as a beacon of the entertainment world.

However, I no longer understand the obsession, and the excitement. Maybe I'm wrong in some way, but I feel like the marketing for Solo really has boiled down to "There's a Star Wars movie. See? Lasers! Millennium Falcon! Things you recognize!" and has been a REALLY underwhelming build to the movie. But just slapping around the words "Star Wars" apparently equates to HUGE money.

Maybe I'm just super down on Star Wars (I kinda feel like I never need to see another Star Wars movie ever again), while I'm about as high on the MCU as I've ever been (I'm curious about where we're heading next...Ant-Man excepted), but it's baffling to me that Solo is on track to be such a huge B.O. success.

I like James Mangold, but Star Wars is rudderless right now. It's either nostalgia-wankery or SUBVERSION and there's no focus on telling stories and making good movies.

Hopefully they'll right the ship as this machine keeps churning along.
