Finally saw the trailer for this before the sneak screening of Thor 2 last Thursday. I was totally under-impressed. It just looks like another empty-headed Hollywood attempt to rape a popular, currently inactive franchise character and "re-imagine" it to the point where it barely resembles the original at all. The trailer was basically 2 1/2 minutes of Sam Jackson hamming it up in a horrible-looking hairpiece, yelling at the camera, and a hasn't-aged-well-at-all Michael Keaton leaning across tables mumbling evil conspiratorial snippets ...and a whole lot of footage of the "new & improved" ED-209 and various crap blowing up. ***YAWN***

I suspect this thing will be about as "awesome" as the remakes of Total Recall and Fright Night.

So far the early slew of reviews seem very split for fairly interesting reasons. If nothing else it might be a spectacular failure rather than log of poo.

Interesting review. Likes the film but clearly acknowledges it isn't in the same vein as the original, with far less action and missing the biting satire of Verhoven's version. Think I'll hold off until I can talk to someone that I know has actully seen it, or just wait for it to hit the video store shelves.

Most of the geek related reviews i'm seeing for this are saying it isn't awful. In fact it falls between Robocop and Robocop 2 (granted there is a decent amount of room there... but still) on the goodness scale
