Watching the original Robocop is depressing now because all the satire ended up actually happening in real life.

Blomkamp + Robocop? Yes please.
The main concern is that having a direct sequel to the 80s movie that ignores later sequels and reboots sounds suspiciously like Blomkamp's cancelled Aliens sequel.

It also sounds a bit too much like the typical, "No seriously, this is a sequel" - but it's totally just a remake set years later - thing that is done WAY too often.
That said, as you said: Blomkamp + Robocop isn't something I'm going to poopoo.

It will have to be some sort of combination of a physical suit worn by someone physically fit, and Weller's performance mapped onto it digitally somehow?

If it meant getting Weller back as Murphy, I would be okay with them doing a CG suit. The helmet and shoulders could be a practical rig, and then the rest could be added in post-production.

Or they have a body double and just film his jaw at the right angles and plop it over the other guy's face.

I'm thinking the way they did the pre-Captain America Steve Rogers.
