Rampage (yes, THAT Rampage)...

Well, that was not what I expected. The Rampage arcade game had one plot point, and they changed it. I'm surprised to see that this is being played straight, too. I'd assumed this would be a genre parody.

Honestly, it's so different from what I expected that I don't know how to react. I'll need to recalibrate my brain and watch it again.

I remember when that Hercules movie starring The Rock came out and the trailers were all Rock fighting giant monsters and I thought: awesome! Then before the movie came out the word got around that those were just short dream sequences or tall tales and that there were no real monsters or magic in the movie and I thought what a waste it was. Basically: they'll have to work hard to screw up a movie that's literally "The Rock + giant monsters." At the bare minimum it should be entertaining.

I don't care. SOLD! Who care that they're not humans turned into monsters. It was more about monster punching the crap out of buildings. Maybe The Rock will turn gigantic to fight them.

I care. At least in so far as being interesting. Were I to describe Rampage to an unfamiliar person, I’d say something like “It’s basically everything you kinda jokingly think about giant monsters turned up to 11. Mutated humans who are now like 65-100 ft tall punch buildings until they crumble and eat human beings to boost their health. Also there’s a lot with eating: like, if they eat something spicy they breathe fire, or if they eat a toilet, they spit it out. It’s basically like a farce of giant monster stuff.”

This looks like the only thing in common with that explanation of what Rampage is, is “giant monster”
I’ll judge the movie on its own merits when I finally see it, but my initial reaction is too much just being stunned at how much it doesn’t look like Rampage. Why adapt Rampage just to jettison the couple things that make it Rampage?

I didn't play video games as a kid (and still don't), but there's a giant gorilla smashing up a city... so I plan on seeing this. It looks entertaining, and giant creature features are my jam.

Let me start out by saying that I loved the old Rampage game when I was a kid. I was always a big fan of giant monsters, and when I first saw the arcade game at my local bowling alley I couldn't get enough of it. In the 90s, I think I wore out my Atari Lynx just by playing Rampage.

When I first heard about a Rampage movie starring the Rock my eyes were rolling To be fair to the Rock, I think the guy has charm and is a decent actor, but almost every movie this guy is in ends up being lame. Judging by the trailer, my fears were correct. I mean it's not bad and I don't hate it, it just looks generic and lame. It doesn't feel like Rampage at all, you can just rename it "Attack of the Generic Monsters" and it wouldn't make any difference. If they are going to make a generic giant monster movie, why name it Rampage when it has nothing to do with Rampage? Even "Rampage of the Monsters" would've worked for me lol.

I don't mean to bash the movie based on one trailer, I may end up really liking the movie. Who knows. But I'm not too crazy about what I see so far. We'll see...

^Admittedly I did too. Since Walmart is clearance the heck out of the Kong Skull Island figures (I saw the Helicopter was like $2.50). If these do the same I may consider getting it just because it is so cheap. My son wanted it right off the bat, and when I showed him the endcap of like 30 Kong figures on clearance, he knew we could wait . I just thought it was hilarious that since the Kong figures basically failed, they used pretty much the exact same toy (with a little more articulation this time) for George.

I still think this is a wrong-headed movie at its core...but for some reason it's starting to look a little more fun to me.

Based on the trailer my wife & I saw before Black Panther, your statement was the best-case scenario, IMHO. It did nothing for me. Hope I'm wrong, and likely I will be, as even the cringeworthy "San Andreas" was kinda fun - on a mindless popcorn film-level.

Regarding trailers, I was extremely bummed at what was presented prior to the BP film itself. As the lights went down at the start of BP, my wife leaned over and asked me if it was a thing now to put the stupidest/worst-looking movie trailers before the best movies. LOL.

I'm using films like this and PR:Upsrising as opportunities for outings with my son. He generally doesn't like to go to the movies, so I don't force him but he has shown interest in Rampage, so I'll take him . Now of course I do have boundaries. If he wanted to see something dreadful like...The Emoji movie, I'd say, he was completely on his own. He'd have to find his own way to the theater and pay for it himself...Thankfully, that wasn't the case. We're not even watching it on Netflix.

Also Dwayne...buddy...you may say you've been working *Really Hard* on your Japanese, but you aren't fooling anybody

Still think this movie should've been either more faithful to the game, or called something else. But it does look like a fun monster romp. Dwane Johnson can't act, but he does have a stupid charm that fits a stupid movie well. I won't see it in theater, but will definitely check it out when it comes to video.
