This was a really good movie!! The ending battle between the Goriila and the Croc was awesome!! It was straight up action packed!! I think this one was a lot better than pacific rim uprising.

Most of the reviews I'm reading they the film is really dumb. But fun...not in an offensive way like Transformers:TLK, but if you can turn your brain off, and just enjoy Dwayne Johnson, and the monsters, you can have fun with it.

I'm hearing more of a "I wish is was MORE dumb fun" vibe.

"It takes itself too seriously" is a phrase I've seen thrown at it a lot.

One review said, "It's an Asylum film with a $100 million budget that still makes all the Asylum mistakes: too talky, too many characters, hot and cold pacing, and lacks any TRUE moments of over-the-top stuff that would make it really INTERESTING and FUN."

I'm also hearing that it's "better" than Uprising...so it seems like what we have here might be a tale of two different movies that, were they to meet somewhere in the middle between Uprising's complete and utter lack of ability to be coherent and Rampage's unwillingness to let its pretenses slide and have FUN, might actually have been two GREAT entries into the genre instead of just serviceable ones.


Haven't seen Rampage yet, so I can't definitively make that statement, but that's the general vibe I get.

My son wants to see this, but I'll probably wait until it comes to the discount theater in a couple months. THIS and Ready Player One (I'm making him read the novel first, plus its part of his school curriculum)....

All this is basically doing is making me wish my Wii worked . I have Rampage Total Destruction, which includes as Bonus content, the original Arcade Rampage, AND the SNES version.

You could always track down a Wii U, Nintendo made it backwards compatible with Wii games. No need to worry about extra controllers either, Nintendo kept using the Wii remotes for the Wii U.

^ I've thought about it, but I have GameCube games that then I could not use, plus the whole convoluted process of trying to transfer all the wii virtual arcade stuff I have to wii U. I've thought about shipping it to Nintendo to see how much nit would cost to fix, but it may not be worth it. I would think, to promote the film, a Rampage collection on modern consoles would come out...c'mon Midway...get with it!

Loved this. The destruction scenes were fantastic and refreshing. It feels like so many giant monsters are just plodding through cities wrecking stuff collaterally, here they are actively destroying anything that gets in their way. This really delivers on the spectacle. This is the kind of movie that I really love. It fully embraces it's concept and elevates a B movie by giving it an A list treatment.

I hope it does well but there were less 10 people at my showing on opening Saturday

Just got back from seeing this. and I have to say, what a pleasant surprise! Of the movies I've seen so far this year( Pacific Rim Uprising, A Quite Place, and this)this was by far the most entertaining. Speaking of entertainment, I'd say this movie compares far more favorably with Skull Island than with PC, Uprising. I'm hoping that King of Monsters is as much fun... I'd definitely recommend this!

This was pretty good fun. The bromance between The Rock and George was handled well, and all the carnage in the final act was a blast. The main disappointment for me was a personal preference thing: I really wanted them to grow bigger by the end. I can see why they kept them at the size they did, since George still needed to interact with The Rock, but with three giant monsters in a city, I was hoping to see skyscrapers toppling like dominoes. At least Pacific Rim Uprising delivered on that front.

I saw Rampage last night and it rocked! This is my kind of flick, a kaiju movie in which the protagonists are animal lovers, with a great cast and a fun sense of adventure that fully embraces the monster mayhem.

I played Rampage: World Tour on the Nintendo 64 when I was a kid and I loved seeing so many of the video game's tropes on display in the movie during the Chicago attack. The monsters don't just move about randomly, they make a beeline across the city while wrecking everything in their way.
The monsters are all realized well and Dwayne Johnson's involvement in the final brawl makes for a very unique kaiju battle. The cast really elevates the material. I think it's funny how so many actors from The Office are turning up in creature features this year. There was John Krasinski's A Quiet Place, now Jake Lacy in Rampage, and next Rainn Wilson will be in The Meg.

A few years ago Jake Lacy's character would read as outrageous and broad, but in the nightmare world of 2018 his character reads as a realistic portrayal of the kind of privileged buffoon who works at, say, the white house or owns a tech company trying to 'disrupt' some industry.

As for Rampage itself: I quite liked it, especially the final third or so. Lizzie was the highlight for me. I understand the purpose of keeping George less monstrous, but I'm glad that for Ralph and Lizzie they added all sorts of weird details and abilities.

Jeffrey Dead Morgan gets the best moment with the line about his job description.

It's fun....mostly.

It's a very EXTREMELY tonally confused movie, with often certain scenes giving me whiplash with their insane tonal shifts. Literally within 120 seconds (honestly, IF that long) there were 'dramatic' 9/11 references and remembrance and then dick jokes.

The actors run the spectrum from "Oh yeah, I'm in a Rampage movie, and I'm gonna HAM it up" (Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy) to "I think I'm in a real movie and therefore I come across as boring, unengaging, and the viewers don't wanna look at me anymore" (Naomie Harris, who I usually like, and the colonel guy), to "I don't care what movie I'm in...just gonna do my thing" (The Rock...who's a solid, charismatic lead...and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who's just playing Negan and seems a little disinterested).

When it's crazy and bonkers and revels in its destruction and silly parts, like a Rampage movie SHOULD, it's a lot of fun and really enjoyable. When it tries to be like...a real movie...it is either somewhat boring or a little uncomfortable.

I had fun with it. It's a more streamlined movie than Uprising, though maybe even dumber and not as much stupid fun THROUGHOUT...higher highs, lower lows, I'd say.

Mixed bag. Mostly fun. I'll probably get the blu when it goes on sale.

Watched this today while the kids were in school. This movie was surprisingly fun! It’s a straight up ‘50’s monster-on-the-loose B-movie done with modern effects and budget. The only complaints I’ve got are the actors playing the brother/sister bad guys were just terrible actors (especially the brother), and the “cowboy” shtick from the government agent was really obnoxious. And that’s it. This movie was just plain fun from start to finish. A solid “A” from a B-movie!

And it was WAY better than pacific rim 2.
