So let the speculation begin? Sequel? Prequel? Gritty reboot of the franchise?

Justin Lin sucks.

Anyway, I love Arnold (who doesn't?), but if it is a reboot, I kinda would like to see someone else in the role to make it new, and I'd rather he take on more new kinds of things like the movie he just signed on to do with Jee-woon Kim (director of I Saw The Devil, Tale of Two Sisters, and The Good, The Bad and the Weird)

The only thing a reboot could accomplish is going back to the original idea of The Terminator being an everyman whom you never would expect to be a cyborg. Arnold could really let him self go and be the first pudgy Terminator I suppose...while interesting, who wants to see that really?

I think he's kind of too old for this role, and I too would rather see him do new things even if it's too somewhat mixed critical response like End of Days..

I expect them to pitch it as him voicing a CGI Terminator... like Bridges did for his younger version in Tron Legacy

That didn't work all that well for that film though. I did like that movie but I found CG Bridges to be distracting.

That doesn't mean they won't decide to do it for Terminator.

I was hoping for Terminator 5. I want to see more of the future war like what we saw in the first film.

They're actually doing another Terminator movie? The question you have to ask is why??

Terminator 3 flopped domestically.
It grossed $150 million on a $200 million budget.

Terminator 4 flopped domestically AND Worldwide
It grossed $125 million on a $200 million budget. Worldwide it needed roughly $400 million to break even and only grossed $371 million.

Then the TV series got cancelled due to poor ratings.

So obviously people aren't all that interested in the Terminator franchise anymore, and Hollywood is making another one???

Now I know why Hollywood studios have been bleeding money the last few years.

I'm tired of the franchise. I was tired of it when I went to see Rise of the Machines, it's just the same thing over and over again. The fourth film is a post apocalyptic war with robots, and I've seen the third Matrix movie. I've also seen Transformers...not post apocalyptic, but it's peoples fightin' robits.

The idea of a reboot is pretty dull to begin with and bringing Arnold back for it would make no sense.

Arnold could be carved out of solid rock and in the best shape of his life – he's still north of 60. Practically, would a brilliant computer overlord send a 60-something looking cyborg to terminate an enemy? Or would it send a cyborg that looks like, well, Arnold, circa-1984?

Of course, you could argue that realistically a Terminator would be more effective if it blended in with the crowd. But then why go with a guy who (even at his age) looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger? Why not a completely innocuous looking person like, I don't know, Paul Giamatti?

A reboot with Arnold just sounds like all sorts of ridiculous.

Even if the movie didn't work, I personally liked where T4 was going with the franchise. Tell a different story with new characters in each, but set it in the post-apocalyptic future with John Connor as a background character. Hell, have Arnold in one as the human template for what eventually becomes The T-800, as was suggested in T3.

imho, Terminator Salvation failed precisely because John Connor was a nobody character...so was Kyle Reese for that matter.

Characters that have become synonymous with the series were relegated to the background while Helena Bonham Carter and Sam Worthington took center stage.

Arnold's infidelity with an unattractive maid and the resulting secret child have forced him to put a hold on any and all future projects.

I suppose the only logical thing for him to do now would be to go back in time and kill that maid before she can give birth to the child.

People seem to be most upset about him having the kid around for so long now, supporting it secretly and possibly even in contact with his actual family at times.

I honestly don't care what the guy did in his life. I'm happy that he decided to support the kid instead of abandoning it. It shows he has at least some responsibility for his actions.

From What's Playing:
Terminator reboot would take it’s cue from J.J Abrams’ Star Trek

Despite Mr Schwarzenegger’s recent scandlous issues, Megan Ellison - who recently inherited Skynet from the bankless Halcyon - is pushing on with her plan to make a new Terminator movie. As we reported exclusively in January, Justin Lin (Fast Five) has been shopping around a new Terminator movie, one that Arnold Schwarzenegger has agreed to be a part of, with Universal showing the most interest at the time (No studio is currently onboard).

When news of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s infidelity (and the son he shared with a worker) got out, the former Governor decided it best to put everything filmwise on hold for the moment - atleast until his approval points rise again. One of the projects that was said to be on hold - via a press release issued by the Governator’s office - is this Terminator movie.

That’s true… but not entirely.

While Schwarzenegger may not be yet ready to return to film, considering recent events, and has temporarily put his Terminator reprise on hold, Ellison and are still keen to get going on the movie.

From the sounds of things, the big guy does have a fairly substantial role in the new story - which is said to involve that original timeline being torn, again - but this Terminator would mostly be anchored by a new, younger male lead (Paul Walker’s name keeps coming up - could he possibly be Lin’s pick for Kyle Reese?). Oh, and I think that’s where the rumors of the ‘original cast returning’ come into play - though it’s not so much the original cast as it is ‘the original characters’ from the original movie. Geddit? Like J.J’s Star Trek. What may happen, I’m told, is the creative crew might lessen Schwarzenegger’s screentime in this movie, so it’s less work and less of a commitment for him and thus, it’ll be easier to talk the big guy into doing something this year - - as opposed to whatever year he feels he’s ready to return to acting.

Worst case scenario : They might just do as Lionsgate have on their The Last Stand and bring in Sylvester Stallone to replace him (But please no!). I feel guilty for even suggesting that.

So, it will be an interchangeable "summer movie" with familiar character names slapped on forgettable new young actors?
