I just hope that limiting the director to only women doesn't end up hurting the project. Not that there aren't women who couldn't make a great WW movie, but the pool of talent is much smaller. And yes I understand the argument of getting a woman to do this movie to influence studios to allow them more time in the lime light and increase that talent pool and all that. I'm just concerned about WW first big screen outing get hobbled by a progressive PR stunt. There's kind of a lot riding on this movie.
If we had some other big screen Wonder Woman movies in the past, it wouldn't be such a huge deal. But with the social climate the way it is currently EVERY bit of this movie is going to be scrutinized intensely by nearly EVERYONE. And chances are that those who it won't end up pleasing (and I'm sure will be many from various sides of various stances for various over blown reasons) will be outstandingly and annoyingly vocal about it.
I honestly don't care about the gender or sexual identity of the director as long as the end product is good.
My touch-in-cheek knee-jerk sarcastic solution of who to direct and avoid most of this drama? Lana Wachowski.
But in all seriousness, I hope for the best for this movie. I really really want a great film representation of the heroes I grew up watching and playing with the toys of as a kid.
Although as a plan B, hopefully we'll get something Justice League-y on TV with the whole Arrow/Flash/Supergirl/Atom thing going on (didn't they announce they cast Hawkgirl for one of their shows too?).
