^Looking forward to (hopefully) more female directors being hired for big movies. It may be a rather shallow in the grand scheme of why it's a good thing, but I'm a big believer in diversity equaling more variety, and thus makes things more interesting for everybody.

I'd like to see a kaiju film directed by a woman. Unless I'm missing something, isn't the lady who write Terror of Mechagodzilla the only woman to have such control over the shaping of one of these films?

Finally saw WW last week. Decent, solid film. First DC film I've honestly enjoyed since Batman Begins. And probably the most upbeat since the Chris Reeve-era Superman films. (I was somewhat shocked at the level of shoddiness in the many CGI shots though; a LOT of which were really quite bad. Other than that, I thought this was a good flick.) Gadot was excellent being both strong & soft, as required. Chris Pine has a nice part, (unsure how they'll explain his return - if there is one). Not so up about Prof. Lupin as the baddy... but whatever. Also not honestly understanding the frothing, over-the-top raves this film has gotten, (other than finally having a female-lead hero). Yeah, it was good, but not THAT good. I give it a solid 7/10.

I sincerely hope the other DC-Universe films take a page out of this WW's book. Not everything needs to be so damn depressing and bummer-tastic. Even though Batman has some legit reasons for his state of mind, it literally is just that: a state of mind. Get over your past BS already Bruce, and quit being such a negative whiny chump. I mean, I don't need or want another Adam West performance, but the wrist-cutter Bats I am really very, very tired of seeing. (Same with this cycle of films' ghastly take on Supes.) WW actually gives me hope for the DC Universe though.

I have seen the movie, and I has to post that I like it. There is one thing that puzzled me about the movie. Should the movie take place during World War 2 instead of the end of World War 1? She has her start in World War 2.

You're right, originally Wonder Woman first appears during WWII, the movie shifted it to WWI (perhaps because of Captain America: The First Avenger, I don't remember if a clear reason was ever publicly given).

In the comics, WW keeps her WWII first appearance until the 80s when DC does the Crisis on Infinite Earths mega event and combines the multiple Earth's/universes into one. All the characters get new retellings of their origins and I believe that's when Wonder Woman first no longer appears during WWII.

Of course Wonder Woman not appearing during WWII could not last and eventually a Wonder Woman participates. In the early 90s, right around the time DC is doing the death of Superman, Diana gets replaced as Wonder Woman. A new competition is held for who would be Wonder Woman after long lost group of Amazons is reunited with those on Themyscira; Hippolyta (Diana's mother) secretly interferes so that one of the long lost Amazons wins the competition. The gods find out about Hippolyta's deception and send her back in time to WWII to be Wonder Woman. Unfortunately the New 52 reboot undid all of that, I never got into the New 52 comics but I'm guessing that WW is back to first appearing sometime in the last 10/15 years.

The First Avenger probably had something to do with the switch, but moving the story to WWI was definitely the right call. While there hasn't been a recent glut of WWII stories, overall it's a conflict that's been covered in cinema from one end to the other, many times over. The WWI setting gave Wonder Woman a fresh and distinctive feel, and thematically I think better conveys the culture shock of the moment in history when war became an industrial-scale meat-grinder. By the time WWII came along, that machine was already well oiled.

Kristen Wiig is actually a solid dramatic actress.

Kristen Wiig is one of the most obnoxiously unfunny and, frankly, annoying actors to come out of SNL in the last few decades. I’ve never seen her in a role where I thought, “yes, she was totally the right choice to play this part.” She’s awful.

I don't care for her comedy either (though she is good in Walk Hard, the best comedy of the last several decades), but, as I said before: solid dramatic actress.

I dunno, the only thing serious I can think of her was in The Martian and I didn’t care for her (or really find her convincing) in that role.

But I will be honest and say that I have a hard time giving her a fair chance because I find it pretty much impossible to disassociate from her awful comedic roles. As soon as she appears on screen I’m automatically repulsed before she even has a chance to act.
