Spielberg's best movie are Schindler's List...and that's it lol! No, I'm just kidding. The best of Steven Spielberg's body of work are as follows...
Schindler's List
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Jaws
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Saving Private Ryan
Raiders of the Lost Ark
And then you have the "okay" stuff...
Catch Me If You Can
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Munich
Jurassic Park
The Terminal
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Minority Report
I've always thought A.I. Artificial Intelligence was a pretty great film, but wouldn't dare call it one of his best. I've also enjoyed Hook purely for sentimental reasons. And as for the last "Inidana Jones" flick, it's rather amusing how Spielberg is routinely blasted for the sins of his best-buddy, George Lucas. HE was the one that wanted "inter-dimentional which-a-ma-jiggers" and HE is the one that's always re-touching up his movies with added computer work and saying "this is the definitive version, and you can't EVER see the originals!" What a petulant, little b*tch. Atleast when Spielberg re-tooled "E.T." he gave us the option of choosing between each version.
Let me be clear, I am not a hater. Steven Spielberg is a great filmmaker. He's obviously the most popular and successful director in history, and I would venture to say that, along with Scorsese, he is probably the best to come out of the last four decades. But in the grand scope of things, I wouldn't even rank him in the top ten of all-time great directors. There is Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Kubrick, Ford, Welles, Hawks, Huston, Curtiz, Capra, Wilder.........................................and then there is Spielberg all the way back here. Sorry, but that's just how I feel.
