This video perfectly articulates what I've seen as a worrying trend in MCU movies (especially Dr Strange), and the reason why I'm more intrigued by the DCEU, despite its comparatively patchy quality overall. I'm sure some people will think I'm nit-picking about the damage mis-timed humour does to MCU movies, but a gag in the wrong place (or the wrong gag in the right place) really is the death of drama. For all its strengths, the MCU is often timid when it comes to sincerity. And, for all its flaws, that's rarely an accusation you can make against the DCEU (the botched editing of Suicide Squad aside).
This is also why I'm concerned by the tonal shifts we're hearing about in the production of Justice League, and what impact Joss Whedon's presence may ultimately have as he takes the reins. I find it weird to see myself write that, since I love so many of his shows, but there's no denying that his style of writing does not fit everywhere (Exhibit A: Alien Resurrection), and that other writers' attempts to mimic his patter can often fall short.
