Everyone I've asked (IRL) about this movie or seeing this movie says they're just burned out on Superhero movies.

Maybe it would've done better ten years ago. Maybe WB is just very late to the party.

I still want to see it,..though I can't seem to find anyone who wants to see it with me.


I'd like to see a stand-alone Batfleck movie where he's as ruthless as the 'Save Martha' scene, just cracking heads and smashing people left and right, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Wonder Woman represents the future of the DC Films franchise. We might as well consider that flick the beginning of DC's "phase two" and Justice League a belated finale for "phase one."

The odd thing is Super-hero movies can be a lot of things. Most Are action adventure But... GotG was more Sci-Fi, Ant-Man was a heist movie, Captain America was a war film, Winter Soldier was a political thriller etc.... I've seen more people compare them to westerns, which I don't think is quite right either but....Westerns were box office draws or decades, and petered out in the early 70's. Sure they still exist, but not nearly so as much. I think Super Hero films still have a good run left. BUT...especially on the Marvel side, things may change. *IF* marvel decides in phase 4 to introduce most of the replacement heroes they have brought in the past couple of years, they are going to lose a good chunk of their audience. The younger fans who are reading/buying the comics wont mind. But TBT I haven't purchased a Marvel or DC comic in 15 years, and that was before all the major changes. I have no interest in the new heroes not for any specific reason, I just go by the old saying "If it isn't broke, don't fix it..." Of course I know the industry is all about changing with the times etc... and that is fine. Deadpool was drastically different and very well received. Fox is also gambling on its first Superhero/Horror film with New Mutants (It's not the New Mutants I know so I have no interest...but somebody will...). maybe the lower-budget middle range thing (40-60 million) may work better and be less risky once they start to really shake things up.

I for one really liked Justice League, and I think with Aquaman being a full year away, and having mostly a different creative team behind it. It will take more queues from WW than any other film in the DCU thus far.

Recently Ben Affleck described super hero films as wish fulfillment (Mr. Negativity posted the link above) and that people like the idea of someone that can fix all the big problems in the world. I immediately disagreed when i read that as i would say super hero films are power fantasies and that people like the idea of having the ability to fix all their problems easily (maybe that says a lot about me... or maybe it says a lot about Mr. Affleck) -- Anyway, with action flicks typically the hero is constrained to human abilities, so i'd stick by super heroes being power fantasies. This tends to leave us with constantly raised stakes and world ending scenarios filed with armies of faceless minions to challenge our heroes.

There's a moment in BvS, when Batman is being visited by dream Barry or whatever, and in the theater, the first time I saw it...it was so gloriously hilariously confusing and awful, that I started to think "Hey, maybe this is gonna be one of those piles of garbage that's enjoyable because of all the ways that it's so stupid and confusing and awful and misguided." (needless to say, it wasn't)

Justice League is two hours of that. So hilariously stupidly bad and wrong-headed and tone-deaf and smashed together that it's like a comedy, a comedy that's so unfunny, it circles around and becomes funny again. The amount of laughing I did at parts that were not supposed to be funny angered people in my theater.

Funny how different people see movies differently. I finally saw Justice League today, and thought it was fantastic. Then again, I liked MoS, BvS, WW, and heck, even Suicide Squad..so what do I know, right?

Glad another member here liked it! I’ve liked all the DC films too (well, only the “ultimate” cut of BvS, and SS was just okay). I think this film’s biggest sin was just being a solid superhero teamup movie. It didn’t do anything groundbreaking or mind blowing and it’s being skewered for it. Which sucks because it’s a good, solid outing for the greatest characters from DC’s stable.

To me, the most interesting DC movie thing to happen recently is when Alex Garland (Ex Machina and the upcoming Annihilation) was asked in an AMA what comic he'd like to adapt for film he answered, simply and succinctly, "Swamp Thing."

Swamp Thing is one of DC/Warner's best characters, and hopefully they figure that out sooner or later!

I wouldnt mind seeing Jeff Lemire's run on Animal Man on the big screen, that would be a trippy, body horror flick
