I just have to comment for a minute. I'm not a dedicated "DC" fan, or a "Marvel" fan...I just enjoy good superhero stories (I know good is subjective but...) I also completely understand that to modernize things and make them more palatable to a wider audience that some changes need to be made. Unfortunately we will never see a live action version of this:



In fact outside of comics, THIS version of the original seven has never existed in ANY media except for the Young Justice animated series which was not even about the Justice League.

But way back when...I remember seeing a lot of strong advertising with banners stating "Unite the Seven"...yet in Justice League later this year this year we are getting what?...5 1/2? (minimal involvement of Superman and complete lack of Green Lantern). Now I know that there is some sort of GL project in development over at WB, but of course they are being cautious and wanting more time to pass due to the disastrous 2011 film (which I actually liked btw...) but you would think, with all the missteps, and how critically fans and non-fans are reacting to the DCU, they would try to get something right...I get why Cyborg is the modern-day stand in for MM, but seemingly this entire build up has been one mistake after another...

Honestly...I liked MoS. BvS was okay..., I have no intention of seeing Suicide Squad, and I really hope WW does well, but Justice League should be exactly what it claims to be, not a half-baked idea that keeps changing even in post-production.

Holy crap. That's absolutely terrible about Zack Snyder's daughter, and just unbelievably surreal that Joss Whedon is stepping in on Justice League.

That's just awful. It's disappointing to see him step aside after having weathered so much of Justice League's troubled production, but it's absolutely the right call. I just hope the vitriolic elements of the superhero fan community show some damn respect for the situation for once.

I would have preferred it if they kept Junkie XL on the movie. Elfman's original Batman theme is great, but in general I'm not a fan of his jittery, ADHD style. Unless this is a sign of further major course alterations on the tone of the DCEU, I don't see how his usual style would fit the Justice League movie. Admittedly, I haven't heard many of his scores from the last decade, so I don't know if he's changed things up recently.

I do LOVE his Batman '89 score. One of my favorite film scores ever. And while part of me would love to see that theme resurrected, the other part of me sees it as being so ingrained in the sinew of that film that sticking it in another would just feel derivative and uninspired.

But then, the use of classic (not even re-recorded) ifukube cues in Shin Godzilla worked so incredibly well it makes me think that maybe, if they're really thoughtful and careful with HOW it's implemented, the limited use of some classic themes might just work.

But we all know that's highly unlikely to actually happen.

The Elfman theme was reworked for the animated series, so to me it's tied to two separate interpretations of the character instead of just being anchored to one.

Then again, I'd also love for the Fleischer Superman theme to be used in every Superman film!

Yeah I know the animated series used a modified version of the theme. But so much of the design aesthetic on that show was CLEARLY inspired by the '89 film that they feel like two sides of the same coin. But the DCEU Batman is so different it feels like an all new incarnation that it shouldn't tie itself down to things so firmly rooted in previous interpretations.

But, like I said, I LOVE the '89 score. And Shin Godzilla is just one example (of many, I'm sure) of how old themes can be recycled in thoughtful and powerful ways. So....

You know what? I was wrong. I just rewatched Dawn of Justice tonight, and now I could totally see an Elfman score for Justice League being a natural extension. I don't know how I missed how Elfman-esque parts of it are. Even Zimmer's Batman theme for that movie has echoes of Elfman's version. I just didn't notice because the tempo threw me off. It resembles the slow, quiet beginning of Elfman's theme rather than the bombastic, blaring brass that makes up the more familiar part. Compare the first 40 seconds of Elfman's theme (https://youtu.be/lcCYhDu4_ZY) to this section of Their War Here from the opening of Dawn of Justice (https://youtu.be/77DOTx6y1os?t=14s). With Dawn of Justice being Batman's darkest hour, and Justice League apparently seeing him return to a more familiar version of the character, I could see his theme evolving into something more lively.
