Honestly, I'm still not sure why we even needed a prequel in the first place. Prometheus was just fine being its own thing set in the same universe.

Looks like this will be the first "Alien" movie that I'll be skipping. "Prometheus", for me, was such a letdown, especially considering it was directed by Scott himself. Such a shame too, as the original synopsis sounded SO good. Now it sounds like this film will have many of the same flaws. Oh well, just makes it easier to keep my money in my pocket.

Frankly, if you watched Resurrection, then you have no excuse to not watch Covenant. Prometheus is a flawed movie, but it is still a fantastic experience and far superior to anything that came after Aliens.

Maybe it's just me, but that didn't strike me as a positive review, considering that the author stated that their fondness for Alien may be coloring their opinion on the franchise. That and the (apparent) fact that the things I most disliked about Prometheus are also present in this film. But hey, to each his own...

I'm very excited for Alien Covenant and can't wait to see it. However my local theater still doesn't have any showing times listed despite the fact that the movie is here next Friday. What really strikes me odd is that they do have showings listed for Pirates and Bay Watch.

Oh well if worse comes to worse I just have to drive 45 minutes away.

Someone I trust (even if I don't always agree with his personal appraisals in terms of like/dislike, I ALMOST always agree with his takes on good vs. bad) said this was horrible to the extent that it has ruined the franchise for him and he'll never see another Ridley Scott Alien film again.

Color me shocked as that's not a sentiment I would have EVER thought would have come from him.

Apparently, it's the straight-up Prometheus sequel we thought it wasn't going to be, and shouldn't have been called "Alien" but he stressed (heavily) that if someone had told him that beforehand, he actually would have been MORE excited going into it, because he was disappointed that (given the previews and advertising) it seemed like the promised sequel to Prometheus was going to get twisted into just a standard Alien film. "It's a Prometheus sequel through and through...and it manages to retroactively ruin Prometheus to the point I don't think I'll ever watch it again."

I know going into this its more Prometheus than Alien they already confirmed in several interviews that it doesn't quite get to Alien yet which I'm completely fine with.

"OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" movie made Prometheus a complete waste of time as there is no god damn payoff whatsoever!!!! A 6/10.

Yeah looking back on my viewing from last night, it was a very mediocre film that happened to have some cool scenes. It does make the ending of Prometheus seem pointless. Because I wanted to see Shaw and David interact with the Engineers. Turns out, in a flashback David shows up, Genocides the Engineers in like 5 seconds with the black goo, and that's pretty much all the connection you see between Prometheus and Covenant. Also almost all the characters are idiots again like the ones in Prometheus.

I think I might skip this one theatrically. I enjoyed Prometheus despite its flaws and I think there was actual potential for exploring its questions and plot threads. Dumping all that in a few seconds for a xenomorph origin story sounds dumb.

This series has not gained any momentum since 1986. I thought "Alien 3" was terrible. "Alien 4" was not much better. "Prometheus" was wildly uneven, I thought. Unfortunately, I put this one in the category of very predicable. Fassbender was the only stand out, among a cast that was basically a there as a pieces of meat for the Xenomorphs (yes, it would not be an "Alien" movie without that factor, but here, I don't think it was executed as brilliantly as we saw in "Aliens").

I understand that Ridley Scott wants to continue with this thing. Perhaps the third one will be the charm, though I seriously have my doubts.

As someone who loved Prometheus, I really dug this follow-up. While I don't think it's quite as good as its predecessor, I think it actually makes Prometheus a better movie by building on certain elements from that film.

The mysterious black liquid was one of the most intriguing aspects of Prometheus. It was clear that it was created by the Engineers as a way of reconfiguring the DNA of living organisms. We saw that they used a version of that liquid to seed habitable planets with the building blocks for animal life, with one Engineer shown sacrificing himself by drinking the liquid and then dissolving in a waterfall. The crew of Prometheus also found those canisters containing the black liquid on LV-223 and we saw the effect that version of the liquid had on Holloway, and the resulting facehugger-like offspring born of he and Shaw. Covenant shows us the full horrific extent of the weaponized version of the black liquid.



I'm very interested to see where this goes next.
