In a slightly related note, I just watched the documentary "Ghostheads" on Netflix. It wasn't bad...didn't focus too much on the new film, had some *interesting* fan interviews and experiences. Of all the fan groups I've seen, these seem to be the most level headed, though a couple that were featured were a bit out there, especially this one who talked about his grandfather etc.... that guy really needs to go to the dentist, I'd be embarrassed if I looked like that on screen.

So in the realm of Fan documentaries (Trekkies, Trekkies II, the Brony one, and Ghostheads). I'd say the first Trekkies was the most hilarious, the Brony one the most cringe worthy, and Ghostheads was just middle of the road. I'm surprised how much effort some fans went into seeing Ernie Hudson. I just happened to bump into him at a local show about 3 1/2 years ago (He was voicing a character in Transformers at the time) , but the GB fans were out in full force. I was actually with my kids in line to get Steve Blum's autograph, when Ernie Hudson just appeared from a side door, walked down a hallway full of fans and kindly greeted everyone. I didn't even see him until he placed his arm on my shoulder as he walked by and said "good to see you". I felt bad not being there to get his autograph, but we quickly got in his line after we were done with Steve Blum .

Now all I can say is where's the Transformers fan documentary . I'd be so bold to say they probably have the 3rd biggest fan base behind Star Wars & Star Trek.

So, apparently some alleged Ghostbusters 'fans' (really alt-right weirdos who've glommed onto this thing like the trolls they are) spammed Leslie Jones' twitter account with such an onslaught of racist and sexist harassment that even I, a man who's been on the internet for most of his life, was truly shocked. Now, you're probably wondering: "what does Dan Aykroyd think about all this?"

The crap that happened to Leslie Jones was unnecessary to the umpteenth level. However my favorite person to ever live Patrice O'Neal once said something on the lines of, "Why give stupid white people the time of day. Don't acknowledge them." Social media is a toilet seat. Sometimes the sh!t and piss missed the bowl entirely.

Leslie Jones signing off on twitter is letting the internet cowards get the last laugh. Someone should have recommended to her to hang around and laugh it off because that would have bothered the trolls more.

The video I posted of Roeper is my big problem with the whole thing. Sony tried to revive a dead franchise and didn't have an excuse for it looking crappy so they clung to the minority of mouth breathing pigs of the internet and made it out to sound like any criticism of the movie was because it was all women. I should give Feig and McCarthy a pass because in my mind they did this movie because they probably owed someone a favor and you can only take so much hate, but Sony as a company just flat out sucks at everything they do. The handling of this movie is the cherry on top.

And with all do respect if those things you saw posted to Leslie Jones shocked you, if you had seen the type of trolling I am used to you would have a stroke. Everything ranging from posting pics of dead fetuses to lynched black people or decapitation pictures, just to be a dick. Trust me, what happened to Jones is nothing new. Internet anonymity at it's finest.

^ I think you're judging them all too harshly. It seems to me the mouth breathing pigs have been quite quite a large contingency, and have been so persistent and organized that confronting them is unavoidable unless you have the patience of a Buddha. Of course, Sony is the Keystone Cops of movie studios, so I'm not defending them on whatever they've done about it (and haven't really payed attention to that) but Feig and the cast blowing up about it in the last few months strikes me as totally natural, and, as I said before, I would have blown up to a much higher degree.

And another thing: it seems to me that people aren't even anonymous anymore! They're terrible and don't even care if you know who they really are are not.

It's funny if you watch that "Red Letter Media" review of Ghostbusters 2016 they go onto say,

"The most politically decisive movie of 2016... a f*cking Ghostbusters movie.. guess thats where we are now..."

Hahaha.

I forgot to add the Bill Murray thing probably pissed me off more than misogyny crap. Forcing someone to do a movie is something I have never heard of.

I mean, I agree that it's staggering and terrifying how rampant and out of control hatred and ignorance are here despite it being 2016 and everyone wanting to believe we'd progressed more since the civil rights movement, but it's also important to note that it's 2016, and this is the era of EVERYONE being offended by EVERYTHING and EVERY offense being turned into a sensationalized story.

One of the most divisive, raged against movies last year was freaking Jurassic World, because it showed that one woman get eaten by the mosasaur. People freaked the fudge out about a character in Game of Thrones getting raped (a show whose FIRST EPISODE has an incestuous brother/sister couple get caught boning and thus they throw a ten year old kid out the window).

It can be exhausting. Social media has connected idiots to those of us who use our brains in a new way, and we're still not used to it quite yet.

The little girl with her mother in front of me at Burger King earlier tonight was so thrilled that they were about to go see Ghostbusters. She jumped up and down and excitedly told the cashier that was where they were going next. It was adorable.

At the end of the day, that's what matters most.

Screw the haters, the new Ghostbusters is the most fun I've had at the cinema since Scott Pilgrim. It's by turns funny, scary and exciting in just the way you would hope. It might actually be as funny and all-round entertaining as the original, aside from a handful of lapses into juvenile toilet humour. The new cast work great together, I think there's more actual ghostbusting than in both of the first two films put together, and it takes ownership of the elements it borrows from its predecessor with an assured confidence that some other recent movies (I'm looking at you, Independence Day 2) couldn't muster. Hell, it's even got the most entertaining end credits I've ever seen in a movie. So give the internet rage police the finger and go see this movie now.

I didn't like it at all but that has more to do with Paul Feig than any of the cast members. I don't feel he was the right guy for the job. The originals are weird, offbeat sci-fi/horror films with dry, smart humor, this is just crude and unfunny. It tries way too hard throwing gags and one-liners at the audience and is just the worst a modern comedy can get.
