Agreed. Granted, I think the newer series is a tad less sci-fi than the original series, but that's really just because it took such a radically different approach, which I REALLY appreciated, actually. I love seeing the world that becomes the Planet of the Apes get created, and they're doing a great job of it.
Along the way, they are definitely sticking to the tenants of science fiction, though, ESPECIALLY with Dawn, wherein a lot of philosophical "what is it to be human?" type questions are asked. Those play a part in Rise also, but I guess certain things just struck a huge cord with me in Dawn, especially when Koba turns evil.
