The EDGE OF TOMORROW Sequel Isn’t Being Directed By Christopher McQuarrie
Go home, Deadline, you're drunk.

Christopher McQuarrie wrote:Correction: I am NOT directing The sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. Doug Liman is. I will be involved but there's no Edge without Doug.

Holy Crap! The Edge of Tomorrow SequelPrequel

EDGE OF TOMORROW 2 To Be A Prequel Because People Love Those
Today’s Doug Liman seems different than yesterday’s Doug Liman.
"...you know when Warner Bros. wants to sort of turn the comic book genre on its head, they call me.

It’s like how do you fundamentally reinvent what people are doing? And that’s the good and the bad news of this sort of box I’ve been put in. I mean, you’d think it was by design, but it wasn’t. It is exactly what I should be doing, but I’m just so grateful that -- you know sometimes I’m working on a project and I pitch an idea that’s too conventional, and the producers will say back to me “That’s not Doug Liman enough.”

Which is like a weird thing, because I’m like “Well that -- it was my idea! How can you say it’s not me?” And they’re like “No, because when we think of you, we think of like, you know -- that just seems too ordinary.” So even if I wanted to be a little bit more conventional, like, the system doesn’t want me to be."

That's a terrible title. I don't know what's left to do with the story, but I loved the first one...just fix this title.

Doug Liman teases plans for twisty, 'smaller' Edge of Tomorrow sequel
“I think what people tend to do with sequels is they just make them bigger. And I’m like, ‘No, a sequel should be smaller.’ You did the first film as sort of the ad campaign for the sequel, so now you don’t need as much action, and in the case of Edge of Tomorrow, people obviously loved the comedy and they loved the situation… So we can do way more focus on Tom’s character and Emily Blunt’s character, and there’s a third character in the sequel that’s gonna for sure steal the movie. We can focus on that. I don’t need an action sequence every two minutes.

I see this as a two-movie franchise; there’s the completion of the story we set up in the first movie and the relationships between Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt—because, remember, at the end of the first movie, she doesn’t know who he is—and that’s gonna launch us into an amazing new direction. It does pick up right where we left off, but it doesn’t keep going forward, because we’d screw with time, because the aliens screwed with time.”

I like that he says its envisioned as a duology instead of a trilogy. That makes me feel like its a legit sequel instead of sequel bait for third film

COLLIDER JANUARY 15, 2018:
Exclusive: Doug Liman Says ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2’ Could Be His Next Film
ADAM CHITWOOD wrote:Collider’s own Christina Radish caught up with Liman at the TCA’s, where the filmmaker was promoting his upcoming YouTube series Impulse, and Liman revealed that scheduling issues for Edge of Tomorrow 2 have already been worked out—right now it’s all about the script:
“We’re just working on the script… [We’re no longer working on scheduling issues], now it’s down to we have a window where we could go do it, and we’re frantically working on the script. It’s one of those movies that we’ll only go make if we love the script. It’s not one of those things where the studio is pushing us to make it and they don’t really care if it’s good or not. If the movie happens, it will be because Emily Blunt, Tom Cruise and myself are passionate about making it, which is a great place to be. She doesn’t need this movie, he doesn’t need this movie, and I don’t need it. We’re gonna make it if we really believe in it. We have story that the three of us love, so we’re working hard on the script.”

Deadline February 13, 2019:
Chris Pratt In Talks To Star, ‘Lego Batman’s Chris McKay To Direct Skydance Sci-Fi Tentpole ‘Ghost Draft’
Mike Fleming Jr wrote:EXCLUSIVE: Chris Pratt is negotiating to star in Ghost Draft, the working title for a grounded live-action science fiction film with tentpole potential that will be helmed by The Lego Batman Movie helmer Chris McKay. Skydance Media is producing and financing the project.

The film has been in development at Skydance for several years, when a deal was made with its writer, Zach Dean. The logline: A husband and father is drafted to fight a future war in which the fate of humanity may rely on his ability to correct issues of the past.

Sources said it is moving on a fast track, and will begin production this summer, making it the next star vehicle for Pratt, who is between franchise turns with Guardians of the Galaxy being re-tooled after the exit of James Gunn, and another Jurassic World in development.

Adam Kolbrenner and David Goyer are the original producers on the pic and Skydance’s Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Matt Grimm are shepherding this. Skydance has wrapped 6 Underground, the Michael Bay-directed Ryan Reynolds-starrer which is Netflix’s biggest budget commitment on a feature.

Both Pratt and McKay are repped by UTA and Rise Management. Dean is repped by Lit Entertainment Group.

Deadline March 1, 2019:
Warner Bros Wants Repeat Of Tom Cruise-Emily Blunt Sci-Fi Hit ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’
Mike Fleming Jr wrote:EXCLUSIVE: Taking seriously the film’s one-sheet catch phrase Live Die Repeat, Warner Bros is developing a sequel to the crowd pleasing summer 2014 hit Edge Of Tomorrow. Matthew Robinson (The Invention Of Lying) pitched a take and has been brought on to write the sequel. The intention is to bring back director Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, who played warriors fighting vicious alien invaders in Europe.

Cruise’s character, a public relations officer with no training, is brought to the front and finds himself caught in a time loop that resurrects him each time he is killed by the aliens. He is mentored by a tough Special Forces soldier (Blunt) who teaches him the necessary fighting skills, and learn from his previous frequent deaths until he is able to start winning. Based on the Hiroshi Sakurazaka Japanese graphic novel All You Need Is Kill, the original grossed over $370 million worldwide for Warner Bros and its co-financing partner Village Roadshow Pictures. It received a 90% approval rating on the critical consensus site rottentomatoes.com.

The film will be produced by Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally, and Masi Oka, with Hisashi Sasaki exec producing. The stars won’t make deals until they see a script to their liking, but they are all in the loop and Liman will develop it with the writer. The studio has been toying with a sequel for several years and back in 2016 set the writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. It stalled but there are high hopes now with Robinson’s new take.

While I always thought the film wasn’t helped by its generic-sounding title — All You Need Is Kill and Live Die Repeat were the other titles considered — Edge of Tomorrow was an underrated gem, the kind that bears repeating.

Robinson’s repped by ICM Partners and 3 Arts.
