First caught a glimpse of the news on August's Facebook. Yumi Ito, the last of the The Peanuts, passed away back in May, though the news of her death did not break until today. She is now reunited with her sister Emi (who died in 2012).
While we had other actresses play Mothra's twin fairies, in my opinion, none of them came close the charm of the Ito sisters. That role seemed just so natural for them.
Here is their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show:

Very sad news.
They made the Shobijin iconic characters, and I'm not sure anyone ever can possibly make those characters work to the extent that they did.

Here is August's great article regarding Yumi Ito:
And as written in the end, I also find it hard to believe that both Ito sisters are no longer with us. Neither of them were super old when they passed away.

RIP. I always found them mesmerizing in the role. They brought the perfect amount of everything to the role: beauty, dignity, grace, reverence, singing and acting talent. I'm with lhb in thinking nobody else can do the role(s) justice by comparison.

One of the deaths I had almost forgotten about from 2016. What a horrible year for this sort of thing.
You'd think there would have been more of a fuss about it here. I can think of only a few other names of folks who could pass (Nakajima and Takarada) who had as great an impact on this series.
