I've always mentioned, when discussing Return of Daimajin, that it's too much of a retread of the first film.

Well, that's the overwhelming feeling you get when you're watching them all together, but it's been a while since I watched one and I just finished Returns - and dug the hell out of it!

Best to watch these films with space in between so you can enjoy 'em for their strengths instead of focusing on the similarities.

I bought this set when it came out, but never got around to watching them until now. I'd seen the first 2 years ago(sometime in the seventies), and the third one several years ago.

I thought blu-ray clarity really showed off the poor blue screen work in the second movie--Special effect wise, I thought the 3rd looked the best.

Very high quality transfers in my opinion.

As far as the movies go, they were as good as when I'd seen them before, but I had never noticed what a bad actor the little kid in the 3rd movie was(as jellydonut25 mentioned). Several times when he should be sad or crying, he's smiling--almost made me laugh a couple times.

Definitely would buy these if you don't already have them.
The future is big, sparkling warble of superclean and we should endevour to do our best to wash our feet by it.

Thank you,

^I think I'm just a bit more forgiving of that one kid being a bad actor because kids are just weird, so I just felt like he was a weird kid acting weird.

Really love these films. Finding this trilogy, along with the Hesei Gamera trilogy, really made an impact on me in high school....I still really appreciate ADV films for releasing all of these movies back in the day. I literally bought my first dvd player just so I could watch their Gamera and Daimajin sets.

I still haven't sat down to see the second and third films. I have all three on DVD but I guess I may as well snag the blu first... XD

Just watched the first Daimajin film on blu-ray. I hadn't seen this movie in quite a few years but wow what a treat it was. The picture quality was amazing. There is something special about this pictures that makes you wish Daiei had invested a little more in the Gamera series. Beautifully shot and chorographed I simply love this story of a vengeful god that destroys an oppressive ruler. You can't help but feel sorry for the villagers this guy is abusing. There are some simply amazing shots in this. I know they just made a Daimajin tv series but I would have loved a new epic film, maybe even have something he could fight in that, a rival god or something.

Other than The Magic Serpent and Yamato Takeru this is an area kaiju films could explore more! A combo historical japanese samurai movie and kaiju film. Brilliant!

The first one gets a 9/10 from me. I'll be watching the 2nd tonight.

Watched the other 2 Daimajin flicks this weekend. Really enjoyed the 2nd one, although it went by so fast. I enjoyed it even though it did seem a semi-retelling of the first flick. Special effects are amazing! Solid acting by the cast to! Another 9/10 from me.

The third flick...well...the special effects are still top notch and I did like some of the new ideas for Daimajin. The opening sequence is so well filmed and you think your in for another serious flick. Then the kids take over. Ok so it's not that I have something against kids being the focus of kaiju films its just the movie could have been 20+ minutes shorter if we didn't see endless minutes of the kids hiking thru the mountain...zzzzzzz I struggled and I mean struggled to stay awake until the end. The ending it typical Daimajin going crazy on the bad guy and it's solid. I like the idea of the hawk being the "avatar" of Daimajin....nice hawk attacks! Overall it's just an ok movie. I give it a 5.5/10

Overall I am glad to own this trilogy and the blu-ray picture quality is AMAZING!!!! Seriously if you haven't picked this up yet you should!

So apparently it's Majin's 50th birthday!

Daimajin was released on April 17th 50 years ago.

Did the Blu-ray fix the aspect ratio issues?
