Can I just say that releasing Attack on Titan for a single 7:30 showtime in the middle of the gorrammed week in Atlanta was probably about the worst decision the distributor could make? Because, like, half the people I know who want to support it won't be able to because of work and traffic. Lame.

The only theater near me that has it is 2 hours away and is notorious for having the scum of the Earth populate the theater. They sit and scream at the movie screen or start blabbing away on their cell phone. No thanks. I think they should of done some sort of deal with Netflix and stream the thing. Would have been perfect.

Yeah, I liked it a little more on my second viewing but it was still disappointing to know it was a Sagisu Shiro score after how much I loved his work on Eva.

Man, these reviews are rough.

.... but I must say, I've been heartened to read many positive notices on the use of traditional special effects in the films (with the reviewers usually listing it as the highlight), while the condemnation is almost always reserved for plot, character, acting, pacing, music, ect. You can't say this is widespread condemnation of the techniques. I just read the Kotaku review, which basically amounted to the reviewer's belief that this could have been edited down into one perfectly entertaining movie instead of two bloated, lopsided movies.

My way too brief review on Attack on Titan. Don't care about the story or characters because the Titans were sweet as Hell. Seriously, the characters were every dull Japanese movie/Anime stereotype and so largely forgettable however that made it more satisfying when the Titans tore them to pieces. If you're an anime purists though I'd skip this film because all the changes from the anime/manga would probably drive you nuts. 2/10 characters 3/10 story 10/10 Gruesome Titan action.

Sooo, I enjoyed Attack on Titan Part 1. I didn't find the characters any more bland or unlikable than in G'14 (or most Godzilla movies for that matter) and I thought the suits and miniatures looked great. Its far from perfect, but I thought they did the source material justice and I thought it held up as a modern kaiju movie done in the classic tokusatsu style (and the Gargantuas influence is pretty obvious). You can tell they're condensing A LOT of story to fit a movie adaptation, but it was enjoyable regardless. I enjoyed myself and its good to see Toho back in the game.

And the Eren Titan was so good that I'm looking forward to part 2 even more now that he'll be the star of the show.

I liked it okay. It's nothing amazing, but I enjoyed it. I loved the Titans, although I felt like the head on the was a bit wonky. I think it was mostly how different the hair moved compared to the other titans. Still, a ton of fun seeing those monsters. The preview for Part 2 looks to be really weird, so I'm looking forward to that entirely to see how different it is from the manga.

Although, god almighty. The complaining I heard after this movie is incredible. Did the entire SnK fandom expect a panel by panel adaptation? Especially in a film under 2 hours long?

Finally saw it this weekend. I am someone who knew nothing, nada, zilch about the source material and when it comes to anime or magma overall, I'm the villiage idiot around here.

Taking all of that into account, I found myself actually enjoying this. Not a perfect movie by any means, as some of the characters I found to be one-dimensional, not to mention some slow spots throughout the narrative. However, it is the giants that steal this show! They more than compensate for any sins this movie has. VERY frightful looking, not to mention, much more interesting than what we got in "Jack the Giant Slayer". I recall Shinji Higuchi stating that "War of the Gargantuas" was a favorite of his. Yes, as others have mentioned, I could feel a Gargantuas influence injected for this movie.

LOVED part 2. Any faults I could find in part 1 (which were fairly few) were made up for in the second part and as an overall single film, I love it. It's not perfect but it's definitely one of the more interesting tokusatsu films to have ever been released.

I liked Part 2 more as well. Shorter, but with more action, and background on the Titans' origin (I haven't read the manga, I went in knowing just the first season of the anime). And yes, there's a little post-credits scene.

Saw the first film the other week. I've now seen three films this year that use practical effects work, and then cake it in twitchy CGI: this, Jurassic World, and Crimson Peak today. I thought it looked the best here.

I saw AOT 2 today and loved it. Great action scenes, top notch live action spfx. My only complaint was that a lot of characters gave unnecessary monologues, but its a Japanese film based on an anime. Monologues are going to happen.

Has anybody heard anything about a dvd/bluray release for this? I'd hope they'd be packaged together but i havent seen anything on Amazon about a pending release

I have also seen part 2. I enjoyed the SFX for the most part minus some atrocious CGI human to titan transformation scenes. However I felt like there was a steep drop off in the quality of FX compared to the first half. The titans attack on the town was very well done in Part 1 and really captured the horror and strangeness of the titans. Part 2 was more classic giant monster fun.

I feel like they could have taken 40 minutes of action for this part 2 and combined it with part 1.

I do hope Higuchi has little influence over the actual story telling, editing and pacing of Godzilla Resurgence. Just stick to making things blow up and look awesome. I just hope Anno pulls it off.

I can see why fans hate it since they do crap on the source material and the dialogue of the characters is never really interesting. (it is only slightly more interesting in the anime/manga)

I haven't seen part 2 yet, but the first movie was pretty good. I watched it again recently and it held up ok. The Titans weren't quite as menacing as the first viewing, but some were certainly creepy. The only downside to CGI is that everything in this film has such a dark color palette. I'm really hoping that won't be an issue in G16.

Oh ya. One thing I noticed. It is as if the sound department for Part 2 said screw it because Eren's titan's roar sounds more like an old man moaning that just sat on his balls. I don't know what they were thinking.
