This short is reportedly being included on the Japanese Blu-ray and DVD release of EVANGELION 3.0. If that's the case, it will likely be included on the US release as well.

Yeah but that's another set of rights to negotiate (with Ghibli instead of Khara) and anime labels seem pretty notorious for passing over tokusatsu content like that (looking at you, Skullman).

Got the Eva blu, this is attached to the front of the main feature. Pretty slick, with rocking PCM surround sound. Some of the best miniatures ever.

Is there anyone who remotely understands the narration? Does it explain where these handsome fellas came from?

Well the God Warriors are from Nausicaa, I don't think there's an explanation from where they came other than the sky. They're these big bio-engineered monsters that destroy most of the earth during an event called The Seven Days of Fire which is what causes the world of Nausicaa to be the way it is.

So a friend of mine just brought me the making-of book that was released in conjunction with the exhibit the film was produced for.

Sweet Mother of God. I am positively tumescent every time I look through it. So many crazy yet simple and effective techniques that I absolutely must try out for our upcoming shorts. This and the extensive exhibit program have been in my possession for only a couple of days and they are already amongst the most brilliant gems of my tokusatsu book collection.

Any official word if this will be attached to the North American disc? I loved this short. It was simply amazing. It's great to see that these types of fx are being kept alive even if they're no longer the mainstream fx being used. Hopefully they'll continue to make shorts like this, Gehara, and occassional features like the Ultraman films. There's atleast 2 new daikaiju/tokusatsu films on the horizon that I know of but I'd love to see more solo kaiju efforts like "G" or "Demeking". I'd love for "Pacific Rim" and "Godzilla" to inspire more filmmakers to get behind these types of films.

I had no idea the puppet was that big. I figured it was about half that size.

It was basically the same technique used to portray Threepio in The Phantom Menace.

A straight line from Miyazaki to Godzilla!

... didn't Haguchi say that scenes of flight in Miyazaki's movies were his inspiration when making Gamera: Guardian of the Universe?
