Win Tix to MONSTER X STRIKES BACK and GEHARA @ NYAFF

The New York Asian Film Festival is giving SciFi Japan readers a chance to win free tickets to see a double feature of MONSTER X STRIKES BACK: ATTACK THE G8 SUMMIT! And GEHARA: THE LONG-HAIRED GIANT MONSTER on June 28.

Directed by Minoru Kawasaki (EXECUTIVE KOALA), MONSTER X STRIKES BACK (2008) features the big screen return of Guilala from the 1967 film THE X FROM OUTER SPACE.

GEHARA (2009) is an acclaimed short film about a new giant monster attacking Japan. It was directed by Kiyotaka Taguchi (whose credits include GMK, 20TH CENTURY BOYS, and the indie kaiju movie G) and produced by Shinji Higuchi (the 90s Gamera trilogy, SINKING OF JAPAN).

Following the movies will be a sneak preview of DEATH KAPPA, an upcoming film from Tokyo Shock directed by Tomoo Haragichi (the recent Gamera films, SAKUYA, KIBAKICHI).

The screenings will take place at the IFC Center in NYC at 11am on Sunday, June 28. The ticket giveaway contest is now on SciFi Japan:

Interesting. Is Tokyo Shock going to be the company that releases Gehara on DVD?

I haven't heard anything about Media Blasters acquiring GEHARA. I think NYAFF just paired the short daikaiju movie with the feature length daikaiju movie on their schedule.

I found two clips from Gehara (the 2nd of which contains a terrific -- if spoilery -- homage to Showa kaiju films)

Just to clarify--this looks to be the entire short.

I just need to know; what's Death Kappa going to be about?

Yeah, obviously we'll have a killer Kappa in the film, but more information please?

The short was posted online months ago. Even a few weeks after the report of the film being made.

All I know is what NYAFF sent me. The next time I talk with friends at Media Blasters I'll ask them about this one.
