Mothra now on Crackle

Postby king_ghidorah » Wed Mar 18, 2009 10:10 am

Gotta thank Scifi Japan here...they have a new article up about this web site Crackle.com that has movies and TV shows up on it...kinda like hulu. Anyways they have the original Mothra up, as well as alot of Sony's Godzilla library, on it so thank you to Sci Fi Japan for the heads up. As for me...this will be the first time I've watched Mothra in probably 15 years...I can't wait.

Neat!

I'm going to wait until the DVD comes out myself, but it's still pretty cool.

I can't find it. Do you have to register with the website before most of the content will even show up on a search?

Dai, I'm not registered with Crackle and the search function works fine for me. You can also find a list of titles and the link here:

http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2009 ... n-crackle/

For anyone who is wondering what other Godzilla/Toho stuff might show up on Crackle, the site is owned by Sony so you'll only see titles from the Sony's library.

Looking at the site a little closer, hardly any content is coming up for me when I search, and the few titles linked on Crackle's main page just state "video not available." I'm guessing the site's content is restricted to US viewers only.

Never mind, with any luck we'll see a R1 release of Mothra before the end of the year, and I've got all those Godzilla movies on DVD already :|

That's cool that the Crackle versions of these contain the full end credits. I noticed the other day that Mothra could be viewed in HD too.

Thanks for the tip-off! That's pretty cool. I caught the first eight minutes or so of "Mothra" before I apparently encountered an error. I'll try again later. The Titra dub is pretty great, and it's especially awesome to see it in widescreen.

The same happened to me, and I notice Dai is in the UK as well.

I think Sony's videos on Crackle are only available to users based in the U.S. A lot of video sites with official content from studios will block users outside of certain areas by looking at where their IP address is based.

I went over to look at Mothra and discovered something that makes me a little nervous...

While watching I noticed that the time counter listed a 1:18:14 running time, which IIRC is about 10-12 short for the US version. Poking around, I found a lengthy edit at almost precisely the 40 minute mark. It jumps from our heroes in Nelsons' office just before they are allowed to talk to the Shobijin to another scene in Nelson's office where he proclaims "Mothra's dead". A lot of important stuff is lost in this edit. Discovering the Shobijin are telepathic, Mothra hatching, napalm attack, etc. In fact the first appearance of Mothra isn't until the dam scene in this version.

I'm really hoping this is a Crackle problem and not representative of the upcoming DVD. It's difficult to believe a goof like could occur considering how much care seemed to go into getting the films for that box set right.

Cross your fingers everybody.

I wouldn't worry, Brian. Those scenes are in Sony's English dubbed and Japanese language prints of MOTHRA so they do have the material.

Another issue with Crackle I noticed is that when going to play GvsKG to see if it was in widescreen it got to the Columbia logo then went over to Tokyo SOS. :?
