This interview with Hiroyasu Matsuoka, who heads Toho's international business, outlines Toho's plans for a a renewed international push, with the Godzilla franchise and properties like "Your Name" leading the way. Plans include direct financing of overseas productions, direct control of merchandise, and live action remakes of anime/manga/game properties. This was first posted a few months ago. It's very interesting, and there's kinda sorta some synchronicity with the stuff I just posted on the 'Godzilla Strategy Council' thread about Toho wanting to produce more Godzilla products for abroad (apparel, mobile games, etc.) now that the Legendary/WB's restrictions on some of that is coming to an end.
