Godzilla Island TV series officially available on Youtube

Postby Dai » Tue Jan 02, 2018 6:02 pm

Looks like Toho are going to be uploading an episode per week of the 90s Godzilla Island TV series to their official Youtube channel.

Here's the Youtube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... ptWyD9vb5K

I had no idea this even existed.

I've had this series for a while, it is quite laughable, and especially fun to watch with smaller kids. One episode per week though...there's 256 episodes, that would take just short of 5 years to upload the whole series! I think they have to do it a little quicker than that. When the series was new it aired M-F for over a year. They are just about 2 minuets each when you take out the intro/ending. That's my biggest gripe when watching these. For TV its fine, but when watching at home the intros/endings should be skipped for time sake, hearing that theme over and over gets maddening after a while. Yeah I just fast forward mostly, but you have to be quick on the controls so as to not miss any of the episode, making this series an actual chore to watch, which is why I rarely do, even when the kids ask for it.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

And to think that a decade ago Toho was charging over $100 for a DVD set of this series.

This YouTube showing is to promote the same DVD set! I mean maybe it is a newer version of this set, but the price is 16,800 Yen (about $150 US).

Well 256 episodes * 3 minuets= 12 hours and 48 minuets. The price is probably more about the quantity you are getting than the quality. The recent Ultraman Towards the future and Ultraman the Ultimate Hero Blu-rays alone were about the same price, and you get much less in terms of episode time on those discs. media in general is always way more expensive in Japan.

That's really it, it's not about quantity; they have an audience who will pay that much for DVD content, and there is no reason for them to to lower it.

Is it subtitled at all? The notion of sitting through (Ultimately) 12+ hours of unsubbed Japanese, even if it's somewhat comprehensible without a subtitle, is almost nauseating to me.
Gills.

Nope. I gave up after the third one. It would make for a good abridged series.
