I've only seen GRA once and really don't care to watch it again any time soon. Biollante easily is the superior film for me.

Godzilla '14 VS. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

2014 for me. Destoroyah is just too lazy. Whether or not G2014 works for everyone, I think we "have to" acknowledge that it TRIES a lot harder than Destoroyah.

GvsDestroyer for me. I like G14 well enough, but it ranks pretty low on the list if I were ranking the whole series. I have pretty much all the typical issues most people raise with it, but it also dawned on me while watching it one time that I give a lot of Godzilla (and other genre) movies a pass on issues (such as boring characters, questionable writing choices, or any of the other many issues people have with G14) that I don't let slide in this movie. And I realized the reason was that there are basically no significant practical effects, miniatures, monster suits, etc. When I'm watching a movie with practical effects, I'm willing to let a LOT of other stuff pass as long as I'm enjoying the craftsmanship (or lack thereof sometimes...) of the effects work. But when the movie lacks that one specific aspect, I hold the rest to at least a little higher standard in order to get the same overall level of entertainment or enjoyment out of it. And that's pretty much the deciding factor for me in this round. I like both movies but I don't love either and they each have some significant flaws. But the practical effects wind up being the deciding factor for me. Especially when you take into account the awesome Godzilla suit (not my personal fave, but still really cool) and the fight between Junior and Destroyer. And the music is better than G14 too.

This is a tough call for me. Both movies are among the G films that I like a lot but don't consider to be favorites. Godzilla (2014) has been out for over a year now and I find it very rewatchable. On the other hand, since getting Sony's Godzilla vs. Destroyer bluray and revisiting it for the first time in years, I've rediscovered just how much I enjoy that movie. For all its flaws, it's a brisk adventure with a lot of unique story elements and it's not boring. It's my third-favorite Heisei film after King Ghidorah and Biollante.

My vote goes to G14 for the fact that it's a much more impressive and cohesive film, while Destroyer has some lazily bad elements that just scream lack of effort.

This is actually kind of a tough one. The both have various positives and negative. So it's almost a coin toss for me. But I'll have land on the side of Godzilla 2014. Ask this question again in like a year or two, I might go differently but for now G'14.

One of my favourite Godzilla movies versus one I consider mediocre. I vote for G2014.

Eh.

The more I watch G14, the less I like it. The score (mostly) sucks. The characters are blander than bland, and Godzilla isn't the central figure in his own movie. Everything up to Godzilla appearing the first time is awesome, but the continued "slow burn" approach is a downfall for this film. The Mutos are interesting, but I favor Destoroyah over them.

That's not to say Destoroyah isn't flawed. It is lazy. It does blatantly rip off aliens. The special effects range from insultingly awful to spectacular. And yet, for all its issues, I like this movie a ton. I love the idea that the original Oxygen Destroyer used to kill the original Godzilla also created an entirely new foe that the current Godzilla has to fight. I also enjoy the final battle quite a bit.


I would say this is a close pick for me, but I'm leaning GvsD on this one.

If GvD loses, it will be another first round casualty for a film i'd put in the top half of my list.

Both are mediocre, but I'm going with Destroyah simply for the emotional impact of the finale. The failure when Godzilla tries in vain to revive Junior. The realization that, as his theme plays for the "last" time and he marches on Destroyah, you're watching his final battle. If you're any kind of G fan you felt it when that final requiem played and the real King of the Monsters finally dies. G14 had cool moments, but they usually led to abrupt letdowns immediately after.

Two flawed films with some great moments -- Godzilla's heart-wrenching meltdown vs. the coolest kaiju death ever.

Momoko Kochi returning as Emiko Yamane vs. Bryan Cranston being the only decent character.

I find both movies incredibly mediocre and over-praised by their respective (often overlapping) fans. Godzilla 2014, but just barely. I actually rank them as #16 and #17 in my ranked list of films.

The end of one era vs. the beginning of another.... I enjoy G'14 more, but I feel more out of GvD.

I'm going with Destroyah, mainly for the emotional impact of the big finale.

I have seen multiple people call 2014 as being similar to modern Heisei film. I guess both are soulless with "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" writing and bad characters, so the comparison works for me .

Godzilla (2014) definitely feels more like Showa Godzilla meets Gamera: Guardian of the Universe than an update of the Heisei Godzilla films.

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah VS. King Kong vs. Godzilla

King Kong vs. Godzilla easily wins my vote. More likable cast, better writing, and just more entertaining overall. King Ghidorah has its merits, but I'd still put it in my bottom 5, nowhere close to KKvG.
