I don't rank either film SUPER high, but I do really enjoy both. End of the day though, I think the combination of Tako and a greater sense of CONSISTENCY gives King Kong vs. Godzilla the win for me.

I've always liked MKG and the Godzillasaurus, but they don't quite match up to the combination of Tako, corns, and the hilarious exploits of Drunken Kong.

Terrible mismatch. GvsKG is a cold mess. The plot is muddled, the characters are thin, the non-ending is annoying and KG's Rodan-roar always bugged me. The Godzilla suit remains one of my favorites, but it's the only good thing to come out of that movie for me (never was impressed by MKG).

Godzilla vs King Kong. I used to love Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, but gosh it's dated so badly now. Worse than King Kong even. King Kong is way more fun for me.

GvsKG does have my favorite Godzilla suit, but I'd have to edge KKvsG as an overall better (and more fun) movie.

King Kong vs Godzilla. Both are fun, but KKvsG is easily the superior film. And it's a CLASSIC!

The third film of the Showa Series vs. the third film of the Heisei Series. Both are flawed movies that get overshadowed by the entries around them but I'll take Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah any day of the week. I like King Kong vs. Godzilla but King Ghidorah has a more interesting (albeit convoluted) story, better monster fights, and it's funnier.

King Kong vs. Godzilla. I could watch that film for days and days without tiring of it. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah...on the other hand..

Think I'll go to bat for G's Revenge. Its story is a little more compelling and meaningful, and in spite of the stock footage, I find it slightly more watchable than Megalon.

Neither has a lot going for it, but I'll vote for Revenge since it at least tries to be different. The parallels between the two youngsters in the story makes it an interesting one, even if the execution doesn't equal the inspiration. Gabara has an interesting physical design - a tailless reptilian biped with electric touch - and as a fantasy adaptation of the neighborhood bully he also has an interesting backstory. The use of stock footage hurts, but in a way actually makes sense since the boy's imagination is clearly fueled by Godzilla movies. Megalon has only one set piece (the dam), one of the worst Godzilla suits around, and a tired, rehashed story line (note that the story in Revenge is actually original, it's the use of stock footage that dims the movie's effectiveness).

Two bottom of the barrel films for me. I can find some things to like about both - Revenge has a good backstory but I've never liked Gabara much. Despite that, I did enjoy it as a kid. Megalon and Gigan are great monsters, but most of the film is boring and I cannot stand the score.

I'm torn - I'd probably go with Revenge based on how I liked it when I first watched it.

Revenge. Both movies are chock-full of stock footage, so that's not really a deciding factor for me. What IS is that Ichiro is a much better character than Roku and Revenge has a story and a message that goes beyond some lip-service to a stock Godzilla movie message. Learning to fight your own battles and take care of yourself is more valuable than "Nuclear power is bad...and we'll prove that by having a creature made by nuclear power be the hero against an alien and an undersea god"

EDIT: Oh and the score for Revenge is approximately one gajillion times better than that of Megalon.

Godzillas Revenge gets way more flack than it deserves. It's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine so it gets my vote.

I think Revenge is the better movie, but i love the Gigan's and Megalon's designs

Godzilla vs. Megalon for sure. Godzilla's Revenge is good as a story about Ichiro, specifically when he's awake, but that's really all it's got going for it. The Monster Island stuff falls flat because all of those scenes take place in his dreams and they recycle several action sequences wholesale from prior films, an egregious overuse of stock footage that even Megalon didn't resort to. That part of the story only picks up whenever Gabara is involved, but Jet Jaguar > Gabara anyway.
