Monster Zero x SciFi Japan - Archive Only

Some on here have been with MZ since the beginning. But even before that, while I was at the University of Pennsylvania, in '92 or '93, when the Internet was in its infancy, I think the only place where you could discuss Godzilla was a newsgroup called alt.movies.monster. It was because of this newsgroup that I was able to tape trade with guys all over the country and get my hands on all the subtitled Godzilla movies, etc.

Barry's Temple was initially a great place for me in the early days of the internet. When MZ came around I frequented it as well.

That would be Rodan's Roost.

Barry's Temple was my first Godzilla site, too. I discovered Monster Zero around the time GODZILLA 2000 was being released in Japan.

I remember when I use to stay on there waiting for the first images from GINO '98.

The Monster Zero website proper and Barry's Temple were two sites I found basically concurrently. Somewhere around 98/99...but it wasn't until maybe '02 that I really started lurking around here...and then whenever I finally joined for realz (I may have created a name in 02 that I used to lurk around but forgot all the info for it)

Barrys Temple and then Monster Zero became my addiction around the time GINO was launching. The good old days.

Is Barry's Temple of Godzilla still active? I just got on there... and it seems pretty dead. Nothing about Legendary Godzilla; which seems like a dead give away to it's status.

I also got my start at Barry's Temple - there was an issue of GamePro that came with some booklet about cool websites, and that site was one of them. But the other site I remember finding early on is Crow's Godzilla Emporium. Looking at it nowadays through the Internet Archive, it's not so amazing, but that was one of my favourites as a kid.

I was nine years old when my parents took me to see GINO'98 on the big screen. As a big fan of the Jurassic Park films and dinosaurs in general, I was blown away and I immediately wanted to find out more about Godzilla. There were two websites that were essential in introducing me to the franchise. One was Barry's Temple of Godzilla, and that was when that website was in its heyday. Barry has long since moved on from it and while it's viewable in its current, "finished" state at http://www.godzillatemple.com, you can see it as it used to appear at . Just looking at that brings back so many memories for me.

The other website that played a big role in introducing me to the Godzilla franchise was an offshoot of Sony's own godzilla.com (at the time). While that main site was devoted to their 1998 film, they had a website detailing the history of the franchise called The Godzilla Database. I learned about all of the kaiju appearing in the Showa and Heisei films thanks to that site. Sadly it's long since been taken down and I can't find any archived pages of it, but the original link was http://www.spe.sony.com/Pictures/SonyMo ... zilla/gdb/.

When I first started trying to use the Internet (at an uncle's house, before I had it myself), I'd visit Barry's Temple of Godzilla and Godzilla.com (this was back around 1997 - 1999). I didn't really start to really frequent any sites until I joined Rodan's Roost, somewhere back around 2002 or 2003.

"Mark's Godzilla Page" was my first Godzilla and web browsing experience. Unless someone has other information, I'm pretty sure it was known as the "first" and only Godzilla resource on the net for awhile. At least until Barry's Temple came along.
