Here's one.
Gigan.
Now Gigan, in of himself, is awesome. Great look & presentation, unique abilities, and just an imposing presence.
The problem is that he's always used in lesser movies or not used to his maximum potential.
Godzilla Vs. Gigan? He was really the saving grace of the movie. He drew blood on Godzilla, which shocked me as a kid. That doesn't change the fact that the movie is terrible though and it only makes me regret that this supercool monster was not debuted in a better movie.
Godzilla Vs. Megalon? Could Gigan do it again and be the saving grace of an even worse movie? Well no. Why is Gigan in this movie? To use stock footage! The sole purpose of him being in this movie is so they can use clips from his other movie! Just about every piece of action he had with Godzilla from the previous film is shown again here. Terrible use of Gigan. That's like using Larry Fitzgerald strictly as a run blocker.
And then we come to Final Wars. One of the reasons I was super excited about this movie was because Gigan was coming back. I thought FINALLY Gigan is going to get a significant role in a Godzilla movie to really strut his stuff and take center stage. And the plot was set up for him to do that, at least it seemed so. He gets unmummified and appears to be the lead bad monster of the movie. OK, perfect. And then....Godzilla kills him in 30 seconds. Uh...WHAT?!?! I could understand if it were Ebirah, Kamackaras, Kumonga, King Ceasar, or even someone like a Varan or Baragon. But Gigan? The supposed top bad monster of the movie? Why does Godzilla kill him first?! And so easily?!?! And then they bring Gigan back to life with a neckbrace and some buzzsaws. OK you can't really undo Godzilla beating him so quick, but whatever, at least he gets the main event spot to team with Monster X against Godzilla & Mothra. That's cool. But then Gigan slices his own head off?!?! WHAAAAAAAAT?!?!?! So he is easily killed AND an idiot.
Gigan will always be a popular Godzilla foe, and with good reason. He deserves a ton of praise for his unique desigh and awesome abilities. But for whatever reason, he just never got that shining treatment in a movie. Ultimately, his best usage was in his debut film, which is an awful, poorly put together mess. That's a shame.
