Cool Pictures Thread

Postby Legion » Wed Aug 19, 2009 10:28 pm

I've never seen a thread like this. I hope this interests some people. I'm just going to post some Godzilla-related pictures I think are cool that maybe no one here has seen before. Usually behind the scenes stuff. Someone let me know if this is a lame idea.

This must have been taken either right before and right after the Ultraman episode with Jirass was filmed. Because that's obviously the '64 body/'65 head combo.
Image

Some kids looking at some models in storage. In addition one of the heads of the Hydra from Three Treasures and a '64 Mothra larva prop can you spot the small models of Varan and Angilas?
Image

And here's the '68 Godzilla suit without skin detail.

More to come...

I love those pictures! Awesome thread, Legion! I hope you don't mind, Legion, but I did find some pics on Google that I thought were cool and funny and would like to share them.

I think people have seen this one before, not sure.

I don't know about COOL, per-say :D , but ever since I saw this image I've wondered what the deal was besides the obvious.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_65wVG6Fngi0/S ... oHonda.jpg

I mean, are they clowning around? Is this the kind of thing that was just accepted behavior? Was Honda lecherous as all get out? Is he lording his position over her at the moment with this gesture signaling his dominance over her? Kumi doesn't look like she seems to mind... is she deep in the xilian role?

See what I mean?!? This picture fires the imagination (among other fanboy things I guess). For the purpose of taste, I kept it as a link.

Seriously, if anyone knows the scoop behind this, by all means do spill it.

Here's some more. I apologize that I can't actually scan these, since I don't own a scanner. I don't know the name of the book these photos came from but it was published in 1994.

Various old props:

Stand-in dolls for the Twin Fairies - apparently the ones used in Ghidrah.
Image

The small Kong model for the transport scenes in King Kong Escapes.
Image

Mechagodzilla's head. In the back of the head, below the red "ear" you can just make out the switch that was used to turn on the lights in the head.
Image

An old decaying Mothra larva.

Well that's different.

I don't really think that signifies anything, really. I'm sure photographers and directors frequently, uh..."adjust" their female stars to improve the picture being shot. And if the supermodel or actress trusts the wisdom and professionalism of their photographer or director, they'll take it in stride.

Now, I'm sure if some pimply faced USC grad started groping Beyonce on a music video shoot there'd be problems. But given Mizuni almost certainly trusted Honda then I'm sure their weren't any problems.

Yes, that's it. Innocence and just havin good times and workin hard and such. Because they don't really have developed sex organs even though they look like adults. Her angle was off and it was just nailin the camera with reflected studio lights. Thank GOD Honda took some salt peter that morning. But she trusted him. He even balanced her checkbook for her too. Mm hmn.

Well, I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting.

Are you saying that Honda was such a ravenous animal that he couldn't control himself any longer and started molesting a famous actress on a set filled with several other people and a camera crew? And if that were the case don't you think similar incidents would've happened more frequently? Don't you think it would be well established by film historians by now that Honda was a pervert? Or are you saying she was so "in character" that she allowed herself to be openly violated by a lecherous fiend? Or are you saying they were just "clowing around" on set? If so, why aren't they laughing or even smiling? Besides I've personally yet to meet a female who thinks it's funny to be groped.

Do any of those alternatives make much sense? And if any were true don't you think that picture would've been a little more scandalous to the participants? Instead it just looks like an awkward picture of two mature adults doing their jobs and not really thinking anything about it.

I'm sure you've seen behinds the scenes from photo shoots where the photographers "adjust" the models to make them look more attractive. That's there job. To make the models look increidbly hot. I'm sure that's what's happening here.

As odd as it may seem to you Kumi clearly realizes that Honda is a complete professional who is trying to make her appear as desirable as possible on camera. Thus she trusts him to do that if it makes for a better scene.

BWAA HAA HAA!

*Ahem...* Wow.

Sorry. Guess you didn't detect the wink and smiley emotioncons after the initial delivery which would have helped you see that it was all in jest (yeah I rolled my eyes too).

That's right. Just in fun. Whoops. Didn't mean to cause an emotional avalanche there in ya.

And I'm not sure what you know about human sexuality either, but then again, I'm not sure you've ever really kissed a girl. Your comment suggests quite a bit of pent up frustration there. Hope you get that taken care of one of these days.

Thanks for the chuckle though. Didn't mean to violate your innocence there with some non-too-subtle alluding. :D

Gotta go to grad-school orientation now. Hope this thread doesn't get any MORE twisted while I'm gone. 8-)

Though I don't know you personally you certainly appear to be a very odd, mean, and frankly shallow person. I hope you don't treat the people in your personal life with the same contempt and rudeness you treat complete strangers on the internet. Otherwise you'll almost certainly come off as a very disgruntled and angry person, much like you do here.

I wish you the best of luck with your Grad school orientation. Hopefully they can teach you to grow up a little...it's just a Godzilla forum.

yes lets move on, this thread has some merit (nice pics btw legion) and to have it devolve into name-calling "you're clearly a virgin because you like Godzilla" type stuff would be a shame

Yep anyways...if you have anymore of these Legion please keep em coming...very very appreciated...

BTW...the first Godzilla pic is very enlightening...specially considering how I got confused not to long ago on what the Jiras suit was actually constructed of...thanks

Especially from two members who have been here for so long. No need to be fighting, guys.

Anyway, here's more cool stuff to look at:

This is just a really odd photo of the original suit. I never realized parts of it were that baggy.
Image

Some concept art for Matango, Baragon, Gigan and Hedora. Marmit actually made a vinyl toy out of that Hedora design.
Image

Setting up Manda for Destroy all Monsters. The set-up on the bottom right was only used for Manda's "get the magnifying glass" appearance on the Monsterland monitors. There's Kamakiras on the bottom left.
Image

Setting up the Angilas vs Mechagodzilla battle in Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla.

I recognized your photos because I was looking through the same book trying to find something about 2 days ago!

It's this one, right?

You're both absolutely right. I apologize to everyone else on this particular thread for whatever culpability I have in this. Obviously no one wants any thread to descend into name calling between two other members. Trust me, I wanted this to be a simple discussion of cool pictures just as much as anyone. Frankly as tired as you guys are of this childish nonsense, you can multiply that by 100 and get to about where I am with it. A guy can only take so much.

To zekend, I'll be frank. This is getting kinda' silly. If I can't respond to anything you say without you getting upset then I will gladly ignore whatever you happen to say on this board. I would request you do the same. Thank you.

Alright, please everyone, go ahead. I'm very sorry this happened again. On with the thread!

So why did you bring it up again? It was over.

I'll just send you a PM and we can clear it up from there ONCE AND FOR ALL since your maturity level can't keep you from smearing me publicly while opting to get the last word in.

Moving on.

I really dig that "baggy" picture of Godzilla. Pretty dynamic pose when I think of the stiffness of the suit. :D

Zekend, from what this particular MZ Admin has seen it certainly looks like you've been the instigator here. I suggest you give that some thought before criticizing GojiraKnight's level of maturity.

My apologies to Legion for further derailing this thread. Please everyone, go back to sharing cool pics.

Definitely the two Pictorial Book of Godzilla volumes, the first being published in January of '95 and focusing solely on Godzilla while the second was released at the end of the year and focused on the rest of the monsters.

I love these two books, and I recommend them highly.
