Looking at that King Kong doll from KKE, I can't help but echo the oft-repeated sentiment that Tsuburaya, for all his talent, really struck out with his two chances at King Kong. While Kong in KKE was a significant improvement from Kong in KKvG, I still feel he never really knocked it out of the park, so to speak.

Am I alone in this? Or does everyone else think Tsuburaya's Kong was great, no problems whatsoever?

Definitely the twp Pictorial Book of Godzilla volumes, the first being published in January of '95 and focusing solely on Godzilla while the second was released at the end of the year and focused on the rest of the monsters.

I love these two books, and I reccommend them highly.

Anything from War of the Gargantuas in that 2nd volume??

Yeah. Six pages of really good, large black and white pictures of the Gargantuas suits, behind the scenes stuff and concept art.

Oh PLEASE post some of those pics!!! Or at least PM me some, man!! I'd love to see some front/back examples of Gaira. I've noticed that his fur patterning changes between certain scenes. My theory is that the technicians replaced bare spots where scales had fallen off with patches of fur after the rigors of certain sequences.

Thank you soooo much Legion. They're absolutely fantastic! Just beautiful. :D

Just a quick edit:

The concept art is pretty mind blowing.. hard to imagine either Sanda or Gaira as anything but what we've been accustomed to. The bottom two of Gaira really accentuates his aspect of ocean dweller! Are those fins on his head?

Those suits are looking pretty beat up too! Bare spots and a little less form fitting in some areas. So cool! 8-)

Nah, all my books are based on Toho/Godzilla movies. I only have one Gamera book, and it's based on the first Kaneko movie and meant for kids.

And to answer Jordan's question: the Pictorial books are made with the modeler in mind. So they try their best to give you as many angles and big clear photos of the monster suits as possible, along with behind the scenes shots of the construction of the suits and the other props and models used to bring the monsters to life. The only problem is that there was never a third volume, so everything obviously stops at Godzilla vs Destroyah.

Here's a contribution to the thread. Here's OtiGoji and me with a Godzilla GMK prop. The GMK Mothra is on a shelf in the background. This was taken in a storage room at Toho Studios in November 2001.

What about pics from Terror of MechaGodzilla or Gvs. MG 1993?

On KaijuPhile (back when it was Rodan's Roost), someone posted an "evolution of Minya" type picture, showing four stages of his growth, with the last being an adult Mosu-Goji. :!: :!: Anyone here have that?

somehow the 93 Godzilla looks better there in the black and white stills then on color live action film...strange...

For the one or two Gamera devotees on the board...anyone know of any good books like these for him or and of the other B grade kaiju?

Awesome...always nice to meet another fan of Gamera...something in me is attracted to the side liner kaiju more than the A listers...Gamera, Gappa and Co. are my favorites.

The side angles REALLY start to look like my Godzilla 1994 (MOGE-Goji) Super Premium figure. Kinda weird.
