GMK for me. I've said how I respect the movie for what it tried to be and what it could have been, but even with its flaws it's still the most original take on Godzilla since the original and that goes a long way with me. There are some incredibly well framed scenes, I love the score, and the suit is one of my favorites. I have a lot of love for ToMG (Titanosaurus is a classic, and I still remember the awe I felt as a kid seeing that, for once, Godzilla is taking on two foes with no backup), but GMK easily tops it here.

ToMG isn't my favorite Honda film. GMK is my favorite Millenium film. GMK gets my vote.

Hmm, an interesting battle. I like both movies but neither would make my top ten. As jelly put it, they're middle of the road. I think I'm gonna have to vote for ToMG. It just feels more genuine (ie less corporate tampering) and does a better job reaching it's full potential. GMK has a lot going for it and the first half is great, but then it kind of fizzles and never quite reaches the payoff it was trying to build to. I guess ToMG is more satisfying, if that makes sense.

Interesting that so many find this a hard match but consider both middle of the road. These are two of my favorites in the series and if I made a top 10 list they'd most likely be in there. Not top 5, but certainly 10. "Middle-of-the-road" is something I usually save for G'14, some of the better Heisei and Millennium flicks.

GMK is my 6th favorite Godzilla film. There is no doubt in my mind that Kaneko is the best daikaiju director of recent times. He really 'gets' what makes these films good, especially with a film like Gamera GOTU. I am not super hot on the confused plot an spiritual elements of GMK, but damn is it entertaining.

Terror of Mechagodzilla is my favorite Mechagodzilla movie, and Mechagodzilla is my favorite monster outside of Godzilla. However that film only comes in my number 9 spot in terms of favorites.

So GMK wins.

ToMG -With very few exceptions, none of the films I vote for win anyway, but I have to be true to what I like. GMK is a great film, but ToMG was a staple of my childhood, and still resonates with me now. It still makes me wish Toho would adopt Tsuburaya's methodology, and do a new Showa era film, in a modern setting.

In fact, just looking at the Brackets, if things had gone the way "I" would have voted, only 3 of the final 8 I would have agreed with (all on the right side). After filling out my fictional bracket completely, I can say that TOMG is definitely in my top 5. But the reason why others may be thinking "mid range" is because it was seeded against films considered by most to be weaker to get into one of the top 8 spots. The final result, it might be interesting to see in the future, might change if the films were seeded differently.

TOMG is one of my top 3 favorite G films, and as such gets my vote. I find GMK vastly overrated these days. Everything up to and including Baragon's demise is fantastic, but the rest kinda sucks...and it features the worst Ghidorah incarnation of the franchise sans maybe Keizer. Overall, it's not a bad movie - I just like TOMG more.

Both films are very good, "almost-best"-grade G movies, but I find GMK more watchable than ToM (which is even more of a downer than G'54 imo).
GMK gets my vote.

I'll throw in for GMK. TOMG is good, but when I reflect on it, the weird editing mistakes jump out at me first. In most respects, I feel GMK outperforms it. My rankings are pretty close to Jor's, actually - I rank GMK 7th and TOMG 12th.

My apologies, I may have not been clear earlier. While I may think ToMG is one of the Better G-Films, I was trying to explain to Gman2887 perhaps why, although ToMG ended up in the top 8, several others, such as yourself jelly, are commenting on it being a "mid-range" G film. Logically one would think, ToMG would have been eliminated earlier on. But ToMG had the advantage of being seeded against, what most fans considered to be weaker G-Films, up until this match, that is.

Example- If ToMG had been up against say, Mothra vs Godzilla in the first round, it's safe to say, it most likely would have lost However that does not make ToMG a bottom-of-the-barrel G-Film, by any means.

-Also, just out of curiosity Gman2887 -was there any system to the original seeding? Or was it just random?

An interesting way to do the seeding would have been to ask people their favorite G movie and the movie most voted is the #1 seed, then re-ask the question with that movie off-limits to determine the #2 seed and so on. That, though, requires a bit more time and more traffic than MZ has been getting as of late

I'm voting ToMG. Showa Godzilla was the most enjoyable for me as a kid and the film built up more suspense than GMK.
