Hi. Something legacy said got me to thinking....
I know it was not really intentional, and more so that Kaneko and Higuchi got freeier rein to alter Gamera's design as Daie grew more confident in them.... but it all worked out for the best I think~!
They were pretty much restricted to just a modern, more detailed version of the the Showa Gamera in G:GOTU. Even those elbow spikes and the flipper wings had to go. But the newly freed Gamera was basically a 5000 year old baby...niave and dependant on his human sponsor to finally defeat Gyaos. His over sized head and big blue eyes play into tha characterzation perfectly.
By G2, Gamera is starting to strike out on his own, and his sleeker new appearance gives that aura of confidence...and of course by film's end he's broken all connections with his human creators and made a fatal, tragic, but unavoidable mistake in saving the day...
And G3's has obviously been through the ringer. With all the more realistic turlte like detailing, by films end as he looms over Ayana's body he looks so ancient and wise. That's pretty darn cool that they managed to pull off such a complex character arc with a guy that can only say "Grrraaaaaaaaar!"
