New Gamera Movie in the Near Future?

They'd probably go nuts. Anything new on the supposed new Gamera project? I'd figure Kadokawa/Daei or whomever owns Gamera may want to announce their new project soon also to go along with Toho's Godzilla news.

I feel like this movie fell through the production cracks and they can't pull it out.

I feel like if another month of two goes by and we still haven't heard anything we can all assume this project is dead ala the Gamera cartoon that was supposed to air on Cartoon Network and Miike's Daimajin film. Kadakowa has a history of pulling the plug on stuff like this.

The Kikaider Reboot bombed for them in a big way last spring. They might use that as the reasoning. Then again, who knows, they could announce something tomorrow.

Gamera has a history of appearing in new movies after Godzilla has had several recent film appearances. I think the soonest we'll see a new Gamera film from Kadokawa will be after Toho's upcoming Godzilla endeavor.

or maybe Gamera is going to costar in the new Godzilla movie and that is why they have kept is secret

If they ever do another Gamera movie, it needs to be in tone with the Heisei trilogy and not that awful Brave movie.

^It just so happens that my idea for a Gamera reboot would be a partial remake of The Brave, but set in the real world where Gamera is a fictional movie monster. When a monster-obsessed kid's town is invaded by body-snatcher-esque aliens the kid's pet turtle begins growing into Gamera. The aliens begin changing into Gamera's famous foes in order to stop him. The kid's peers think he/she (I'm thinking she, 'cause we need more female nerd characters) is a total weirdo, but when monster-biz starts going down she becomes the leader of the group of kids (think The Goonies). Because Gamera is growing the entire time each monster fight is at a different scale: first with the kaiju are only about 10 feet tall, then at more of a King Kong or Maijin scale, and then finally with everything at its 'proper' size.

Just give me, say, $50 million and I'll start making it tomorrow.

I love GtB, i'd rank it right below GotU as my second favorite Gamera flick. I do wish the reboot would wash itself of the mysticism of the last 4 films and fall more in line with Barugon or Gyaos. That said i still prefer the last 4 films over about 5 of the Showa offerings

I'm one of the more vocal people that G3 is wildly overrated and at times ridiculous (and the video game designer is the worst), but the Showa films are just so poorly paced in general...I enjoy them on an ironic, MST3K level more than anything else (which is actually why I hardly ever watch my blu-rays of the Showa films. No dubs.)

The Heisei trilogy is so much more well-made than any of the Showa Gamera films that it's not even a contest. Also, G3 = greatest Gamera movie.

Are we getting a bit of Engrish here? Like, maybe the word they're looking forward is "reboot," which would hopefully lead to another series like a pilot leads to a TV series?
