New Gamera Movie in the Near Future?

YAY!! HUGE "Gamera" fan here. I didn't want to get too excited and this all be a fluke but I got it translated by actress Yuki Morita[of Legendary's new "Godzilla" film and she backs it up that it does say they're planning a new film for 2015 his 50th. anniversay!!!!!!!

I'll try not to get too excited until the details emerge. It could end up being a short like 'Giant God Warrior', just to pay homage to the anniversary or as Legion suggested... a slapstick parody akin to Monster X Attacks the G8 Summit

^ Everything KG said was very true, I simply prefer Kaneko's take on Gamera over the original. That being said, I'm fine with either. I loveeeee Terror of MG but I'm not sure I'd like to see a true superhero Goji again. The same is true for Gamera, although the approach with Barugon seemed less "kiddie" than Guiron or Jiger...

Will wait for more proper news. Could be a book or something for his 60th, not a movie. GTB bombed, so I will be surprised if its a movie. It needs to lean more towards the tone if the trilogy than GTB in my opinion if they're making a film.

I have two demands of a new Gamera movie.

1. Gyaos not be used again, at all. If you're gonna resurrect an old monster, do Barugon.

2. The "adult" Gamera suit from The Brave be used again, at least the design of it.

Chance are my demands will go unanswered. But whatever. I'm eager to see if this all ends up being true.

Barugon was my least favorite of the Showa creations. I'm in the very minority here, but I loved both Viras and Jigar!

And actually, I always thought that Showa Gyaos was more menacing than his Heisei counterpart. Gyaos seemed to have the upper hand with Gamera in their battles (except of course, in the end). I could not really say the same thing in the Heisei series.

Supposing that anything comes of this, I also wouldn't mind seeing Jiger or Guiron. But I'm okay with anything, so long as it's not just Gamera on his own. IMO, he's not very exciting unless he has a kaiju opponent.

One of the truly great things abnout Gamera is that his character fits quite comfortably in either absurdist surreal whacked-out stuff like his Showa films OR straight up dark 'n' gritty, adult-slanted adventures like the Heisei trilogy. As others have voiced, I'm also fine with whatever direction they chose. Just don't make it some dumbo comedy nudge-nudge crock, like Guilala's "return" from a few years back. Ack.

If they resurrect an old foe, I'm very partial to Jiger, since it was a clear female opponent and it was probably the best looking quadraped kaiju ever realized on screen from any studio, plus it had some great set pieces and the kids actually served a narrative purpose, instead of just standing around in short-shorts cheering - although they did do that a bit towards the end. Guiron would be cool to see re-imagined. I would picture him as some sort of cyborg abomination, like Gigan. Barrugon is cool, but kind of hard to make work if they tried to make a "serious" movie. Anyhow, this is some ecouraging news indeed!

It really comes down to the creative drive behind it. As for tone I think GOTU/G2 would be a safe place but I'd go for G3 or even GTB if the cast and crew inspires confidence.

The only Gyaos to truly disturb me as a kid was the Space Gyaos, and that was from getting chopped up by Guiron. Really did not expect to see dismemberment, that bothered me for a long time.

I like Showa Gyaos, but I'd take the Heisei Gamera films over any of the Showa Gammy films 100 times out of 100.
