I don't think there's anything sacred about Kaneko's comments that mean we can't discuss them.
I give credit where it's due. I think Kaneko made one of the best comments I've ever heard regarding the "meaning" of Gamera when he said, " "In one way, Gamera reveals the real man. On the other hand, it also shows a boy who was bullied by all those other kids, having such a hard shell. I hope that those children who are usually beaten up or bullied, it helps them feel better after seeing the film[refering to Gamera 2]. "
So he gets Gamera, even if he still has said some boneheaded things about the Showa series in front of Yuasa or in other interviews. He seems to have an almost tangible sense of disdain at time for the Showa era. I just don't get that, they're not great movies but they're fun. Showa Gamera and Guilala are kindred spirits. Not equals to Godzilla, but stupid, harmless fun.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES had a lot of potential (I didn't mind how it ended), but wound up being really dissapointing for me overall. GAMERA 3 is still IMO one of the finest giant monsters movies ever made, and caps off the Gamera trilogy in style. I wish Toho had taken notes... the millenium Goji's feel lifeless in comparison (though GMK comes damn close, for obvious reasons!)
