I was re-reading my copy of Age of the Gods last night and the final chapter kinda stuck out to me because it quotes Yuasa's feelings about GOTU upon the time of its release.
"It's made by fanboys for fanboys."
It's true but I don't think that's a bad thing. I think Yuasa had a very personal connection with Gamera. He didn't want anyone else making Gamera movies but him, so no matter how good the film was he wouldn't like it. It's just an odd comment because GOTU is almost a straight remake of Gamera vs. Gyaos.
Really wish we could have gotten a video interview with Kaneko and Yuasa after Gamera 3. I'd like to see how both directors honestly felt about the Showa and Hesei series after Kaneko finished his trilogy.
