I'm not much of a fan of Yuasa's films either. I do like Gamera vs. Gyaos a lot, but the others are all either too boring or too childish (or both) for my tastes. I don't mind movies being aimed at kids, because if I can still be entertained by them then it doesn't matter what the target demographic is. But with the exception of the aforementioned title, none of Yuasa's flicks did it for me. I wouldn't even call them well done by kids movie standards.
I respect the guy for trying with what he had and for clearly having a passion for what he did, I just don't care for most of his movies.

Patrick Van Hauwaert asked him if he would do more kaiju movies.
Kaneko said yes he might. Maybe another Gamera or Godzilla if he got the chance.
Kaneko did not like the new Gamera.

I like the fact that he's interested in doing another kaiju film, especially Godzilla vs. Gamera.

Gotta say you are in the minority around these parts. I don't think many people out and out dislike the showa Gamera series as much as you seem to. As of late it seems that the Showa Gamera films are climbing in popularity (thanks to some excellent DVD releases by Shout!) and the Hesei series might have even dropped a little in popularity amongst fans. True, the Hesei series displays a technical mastery that few if any kaiju eiga has managed to surpass but as far as fun, watchability, I'll go with the Showa films.
(Doesn't mean I hate or dislike the Hesei series...it's just that lately Ive found I've watched the Showa films more. I do love the Hesei movies and consider the trilogy to my top trilogy, no Star Wars or LOTR for me thank you very much)
