I've been reading this thread for a little while now. Its interesting how this thread got side-tracked so much from its original intention.
Oh well what can you do........... :dunno:
Anyways regarding your choices for anime titles that have been recommended so far....... Don't you guys think that they're a bit old?
That's not to say that they weren't good but I get the feeling that not too many of you have kept with the times regarding anime.
Its a good to recognize anime like Panda and the Magic Serpent, Magic Boy, Alakazam the Great , Grave of the Fireflies, Wings of Honneamise, Mazinger, Gigantor, and Dragon Ball Z.
And of course who could forget Hayao Miyazaki's wonderful films like Tortoro, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.
But there are many other more recent titles out there that have been equally as good if not better. For example: I'm not sure if you guys have ever seen the original ghost in the shell. That was some very interesting and good quality animation there.
And of course the recent spin-offs Ghost in the Shell Stand alone Complex and 2nd Gig. These shows have sold well over a million dvd copies per volume in Japan. And over 100, 000 copies per volume here in North America alone. The reason? The slick animation, the awesome characters and mech designs and well thought out political and social atmosphere thats present within the anime.
Gfan54 if you feel that anime's all just kiddy material and unnecessary fanservice/animated sex that contain very choppy/sloppy animation I advice you take a look at this series. It could quite possibly change your mind about the stereotypes that you have for this medium of animation.
Smart, exciting, funny and equally thought provoking you need to see both Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig.
