Gamera: Guardian of the Universe Talkback

Spinning flame-jetted turtles, space birds being chopped up like bologna, kids in shorts screaming for help...the original Gamera series was a strange mix of wacky fun!! The 90's Gamera films set a standard that other kaiju films are measured against! Discuss Gamera films here!!

I apologize if this is old news, but I recently heard there is a version of this movie released in the UK, with a large portion of its soundtrack replaced with rave/electronica music.

It was released on video and DVD. The DVD is region free (but PAL) and was included as a freebie with PlayNation magazine. It’s every bit as bad as it looks from that clip: the rave music obviously doesn’t work with this movie and the bits of the original score that are retained are poorly reincorporated. The dubbing is very dry and boring.

I know this is unrelated, but this is the exact feeling I feel when I try to watch the Sandy Frank dub of G-Force (Gatchaman), which was on cartoon network in the Mid 90's (out of place base rock tempo on permanent repeat, often drowning out the original great music score). Ironically it was his same production company that produced the original "Battle of the Planets" dub in the late 70's, which, while it is less accurate to the original Japanese scripts, and contains its own original (awkward) animated sequences, has way better music, and an epic voice acting cast.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

See I was the exact opposite. I knew from the beginning that Sandy Frank produced that awful G-Force rendition, it had all the rank of the Gamera films, Time of the Apes etc... everything they riffed on MST3K. But Battle of the Planets, in the late 70's was actually a good production. Frank must have just gone completely nuts sometimes in the 80's 8)

Hands down the best of the trilogy. There's just a good mix of fun and seriousness. The characters are likable, and doesn't go anime on us. Yeah, the effects are nowhere near as good as the later 2, but this is a much more well made and balanced movie.

Finally manage to find some Kirin beer! I hadn't been able to find it at a couple of local Asian grocery stores, but apparently it occasionally shows up at Whole Foods. What Gamera film should I watch while drinking it? I'm thinking Legion, since its factors most importantly into the plot in that one.

Does anyone know what song this is?

In ADV's original release the credits were longer to accommodate the actors and production for the Americanization, so after 'The Myth' is over an original Gamera rock song plays. I can't find it on Youtube.

Aha! I had put the ADV version on but didn't listen to the whole credits. How I ever forgot this song, I can't say...
