For years Monster Zero had been the main website for news, reviews and discussions on all things Godzilla and Japanese fantasy. With the tragic death of founder Aaron Smith, the news section of Monster Zero could not keep up with the flood of information out there. However the message boards continued to thrive and grow with a range of discussions on all aspects of not only Japanese films and TV but also international films, toys, film festivals and events.

In the meantime, SciFi Japan has been the go-to site for news on the world of Japanese cinema and television, and has expanded to include international cinema as well.

Now, in the best of both worlds, SciFi Japan and Monster Zero are joining forces to bring everything into one site!

Today marks the third anniversary of SciFi Japan! This gives us the perfect opportunity to once again thank everyone who has been a part of the site these past three years.

<a href="http://www.scifijapan.com/SFJmasthead.jpg"TARGET="_blank">

We're incredibly lucky to have such a great team of writers and contributors from all over the world. They've provided everything from articles to information to technical know-how.... you couldn't ask for a better group!

A big 'thank you' also goes out to all the people, studios, companies and distributors who have provided news, information, photos and video to SciFi Japan. We launched this site in 2006 with the intent of ignoring the rumor mills and going straight to the source for accurate news and info... and because of you we've been able to accomplish that. And we're excited that, as SciFi Japan becomes more established, we're developing new connections with more companies in North America and Japan as well as countries like the UK, Germany, and South Korea to better present in-depth coverage of projects new and old to our readers.

Speaking of our readers, while it's fun putting together SFJ there would be no point in doing it if people weren't visiting the site and reading the articles. We were thrilled with the site traffic we were getting in our first year-- and the numbers have grown exponentially since then! Traffic has been going up steadily month by month, and we really appreciate all of you visiting SciFi Japan and will be doing our best to make make this site something you'll want to keep coming back to, month in and month out.

Last but certainly not least, thanks to our sponsors who have not only contributed financially to SFJ but have also provided information and helped spread the word about this site. You've been a tremendous help.

And now on to another year of SciFi Japan!

A Look Back at Asian SciFi Throughout the Year
Author: Aaron Cooper
Special Thanks: The entire staff of SciFi Japan

2007 was an interesting year in the landscape of Japanese science fiction and fantasy films. With Godzilla appearing only in a cameo and no Gamera films to be seen, Korean studios stepped up to the plate with their own brand of monster madness. Tokusatsu television programming was as strong as ever, the DVD market boomed, studios saw major changes, and yet another year with the unfortunate passing of far too many industry greats. The staff of SciFi Japan took another moment to ponder over the events of the past year, and attempted to come up with the most defining moments of the year. You may agree or disagree but regardless, 2007 held moments for everyone in all demographics of fandom.

Today marks exactly one year since we launched SciFi Japan with a tribute to composer Akira Ifukube and an exclusive look at GAMERA THE BRAVE. It has been a great first year, and we'd like to thank our fantastic staff and contributors for all their hard work. You have no idea how much we appreciate your help with this site.

Thanks also to all the people, studios, companies and distributors who have provided news, information, photos and video to SciFi Japan. The goal of this site was to pass over the rumors and post accurate news direct from the source, and your help has allowed us to do that. And, of course, a big "thank you" to our sponsors for both supplying info and paying the bills!

Last but certainly not least, thanks to our readers for visiting SciFi Japan. There's no point to doing all the research and writing if no one is going to see it so we greatly appreciate you stopping by. The site traffic has been phenomenal-- and is increasing steadily month by month-- so we hope you'll stick with us as we work hard to deliver the latest news and updates in 2007 and beyond.

A SciFi JAPAN EXCLUSIVE

2006 was a year that saw great changes in the landscape of Japanese science fiction and fantasy films, whether it was the serious evolution in tokusatsu television programming, to a return to roots for a particular kaiju eiga; a continuing court battle over classic characters, or the unfortunate passing of far too many industry greats. The staff of SciFi Japan took a moment to ponder over the events of the past year (which included the inception of this very site), and attempted to come up with the most defining moments of the year.
