A SCIFI JAPAN EXCLUSIVE
Toho Co., Ltd. has provided SciFi Japan with press notes and high-res photos from THE GREAT WAR OF ARCHIMEDES (アルキメデスの大戦, Archimedes no Taisen), the live-action adaptation of Norifusa Mita’s popular manga. Set in 1930s Japan, the film depicts a brilliant mathematician’s attempt to stop the construction of the battleship Yamato. The film is directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the ALWAYS- SUNSET ON THIRD STREET trilogy, SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO (SPACE BATTLESHIP ヤマト, Uchu Senkan Yamato, 2010) and THE ETERNAL ZERO (永遠の0, Eien no Zero, 2013).
The headquarters of the Imperial Japanese Navy is eyeing the possibility of starting a war with America. To that end, they have plans to construct the world’s largest battleship, the Yamato. Rear Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (Hiroshi Tachi) is opposed to the plan. He lends his support to the brilliant mathematician Tadashi Kai (Masaki Suda), an uncommonly exceptional talent in the Imperial University referred to as “the return of Archimedes”, in his attempt to expose the military’s plot.
