The independent daikaiju movies REIGO; KING OF THE SEA MONSTERS (深海獣レイゴー, Shinkaijū Reigō, 2005/2008) and RAIGA: THE MONSTER FROM THE DEEP SEA (深海獣雷牙, Shinkaijū Raiba, 2009) will be shown at this year’s G-Fest, running Friday, July 12 through Sunday, July 14 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont, IL. REIGO will screen on Friday at 8:00pm, and RAIGA on Saturday at 10:30pm.
Previously known as REIGO: THE DEEP SEA MONSTER VS. THE BATTLESHIP YAMATO, REIGO; KING OF THE SEA MONSTERS is set during World War II, with the battleship Yamato attacked by a gigantic sea monster. RAIGA picks up sixty years after the events of REIGO, as a huge and mysterious creature appears in the Sea of Japan and then rushes toward Tokyo Bay. The films were written, produced and directed by comedian and kaiju fan Shinpei Hayashiya, creator of the legendary independent/fan production GAMERA 4: TRUTH (ガメラ4 真実, Gamera 4 Shinjitsu, 2003), and feature a number of popular genre stars, including Taiyo Sugiura (ULTRAMAN COSMOS), Yukijiro Hotaru (Gamera Trilogy, GMK) and Susumu Kurobe (ULTRAMAN).
Both movies have been acquired for North American distribution by SRS Cinema LLC. A limited edition Blu-ray release of REIGO; KING OF THE SEA MONSTERS is tentatively scheduled for July 25, followed by DVD on November 26.
