Throughout 2019, GKIDS and Fathom Events’ STUDIO GHIBLI FEST 2019 presents a series of Studio Ghibli’s celebrated animated masterpieces on cinema screens nationwide, along with some very special surprises. Following April’s showings of HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE (ハウルの動く城, Hauru no Ugoku Shiro, 2004) and May’s NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND (風の谷のナウシカ, Kaze no Tani no Naushika, 1984), coming in July is WHISPER OF THE HEART (耳をすませば, Mimi o Sumaseba, 1995).
This July, discover the brilliance of this heartwarming coming‑of‑age classic from the legendary Studio Ghibli, creators of MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO (となりのトトロ, Tonari no Totoro, 1988) and the Academy Award‑winning SPIRITED AWAY (千と千尋の神隠し, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, 2001). Before the film, audiences can look forward to a special intro to the film from “Steven Universe” creator, and long-time fan of WHISPER OF THE HEART — Rebecca Sugar.
A chance encounter with a mysterious cat sends Shizuku, a quiet schoolgirl, on a quest for her true talent. Together with Seiji, a boy determined to follow his dreams, and enchanted by The Baron, a magical cat figurine who helps her listen to the whispers of her heart, Shizuku embarks on a life‑changing adventure that takes her beyond the boundaries of her imagination. This beautiful tale based on a screenplay from Hayao Miyazaki will delight and amaze audiences of all ages!
